I’m just starting this book (arrived this morning). I wanted to make sure I submit a review regarding quality and to mention this book is not just the author’s experience (important because some are – and that’s great for its designed purpose). This is a great reference and (because of clarity) is indeed a great beginner training book.

This book, in the first dozen pages, I’m already noticing a deep dive into research went into preparing this ‘guide’ and, although it says ‘for beginners’ I’m guessing a lot of solitary practitioners have rarely seen this research all in one place (and not boring lengthy to take up space). Rather, the author has provided a succinct summary (origins and practitioners) with honoring all who influenced and contributed to the practice.

I’m an educational researcher because so many publications are lacking the background, or they are rendered with ‘too much’ detail to the point of saturated mumbo jumbo. This book is a gem!

Very interesting book that reveal and explain Appalachian “witches” and their craft. Not your typical black magic Satan worshippers or Earth loving tree huggers you are used to reading about or seeing in movies. Old home remedies and healers from Down Home instead.

The printing is gorgeous! This is a quick and easy way to familiarize oneself with Appalachian magic. The spells are well-written, the theory is sound, the lore is respectfully presented and accurate. Worth the money.

I bought this book blind so wasn’t sure what to expect, so it surprised me with not only the quality of the book, but also the quality of the printing and illustrations within the pages. At £7.99 for an impromptu buy, it represents better value (to me) than a book twice the price. Gotta watch those pennies during this C.O.L. crisis!

This book is not quite what I thought it would be. I bought this because I needed foundational knowledge for something I am working on. The quality of the book (really beautiful design, illustrations, and paper quality—are fantastic). I was hoping for something more focused on Appalachia.

⛰️ As someone always learning about the rich tradition of Southern and Appalachian folk magic, I was looking for a book that was both accessible and deeply respectful of the culture—and this is it! Appalachian Witchcraft for Beginners is not sensationalized; it is a genuine, warm, and highly informative guide that serves as an essential bridge into this powerful form of rootwork.
✨️ The book excels in its historical approach. The author takes great care to ground the remedies and practices in the daily lives of mountain folk, detailing the origins of what many call “granny magic” or “mountain wisdom.” It beautifully explains the concept of working with the land, the spirits of the mountains, and the simple, yet profound, power found in everyday plants and resources.
⛰️ I was particularly impressed with the section on remedies. They are practical, utilizing common herbs and kitchen ingredients, making the craft feel approachable and achievable for a beginner. The spells are clearly laid out, emphasizing intention and natural connection over complex rituals. They focus heavily on protection, hearth and home blessings, and simple healing, which are the true heart of this tradition.
✨️ If you are a serious about looking into exploring a magic system rooted in respect, history, and natural connection, skip the overly dramatic books and grab this one. It feels like learning directly from an elder. Five stars for clarity, authenticity, and heart!
