Was excited to get this product for both my wife and I for Christmas. Unfortunately the first time using the product was not good! I charged it, filled it with purified water, set the timer for 10 minutes and the bottle blew up and sent glass everywhere!! There was no warning in the manual about the probably of this happening. Fortunately no one was hurt. I tried to call the company customer service number but it came back with the number is no longer in service. Thank goodness I purchased the Asurion product warranty through Amazon and was reimbursed the cost of the product through Asurion. Extremely dissatisfied!!

First, a quick reality check for the uninitiated: Hydrogen water generators are designed to dissolve molecular hydrogen gas (H2) into your water. The internet claims it’s a magical elixir for inflammation, energy, and anti-aging. The actual science? It’s promising but still in the “promising early data” phase (mostly small studies on athletic recovery and metabolic markers). It’s not going to turn you into Wolverine overnight, but it’s safe to drink and arguably better than the $8 cans of “hydrogen water” at the store that went flat three weeks ago.
Now, for this specific device. It is a surprisingly affordable entry into the world of proper SPE/PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) technology – the kind with the “bladder” style bottom that separates the nasty byproducts (chlorine/ozone) from your drinking water. Most cheap knockoffs don’t do this.
However, owning this thing is a bit of a relationship commitment.
The “Science Experiment” Setup
The instructions are… intense. You have to run three 10-minute cycles back-to-back, repeating this ritual for three days. It feels like you’re trying to summon a spirit rather than hydrate. I noticed a massive increase in bubbles between cycle 1 and cycle 3, so the break-in period is definitely real. And yes, you can drink the water during this phase; you don’t need to pour it out unless you enjoy wasting time.
The Exploding Glass Myth
You might see reviews screaming about the glass “blowing up.” I’m 99% sure those people ran multiple 10-minute cycles with the lid screwed on tight without “degassing” (opening the lid) in between. Physics is real, folks. Pressure builds up. If you vent the lid like a sensible person, the pressure is negligible. The glass is fine.
The Fatal Flaw: The “Permanent” Base
Here’s the kicker that kills this as a portable bottle: You are told to *never* detach the glass from the base, not even for cleaning. The base is filled with sensitive electronics that react to water like a cat to a bath. To make matters worse, you have to keep a little water in the bottom at all times to keep the membrane moist (if it dries out, it dies).
This makes it a nightmare to clean and stressful to throw in a gym bag.
The “Sensitive” Button
The power button is a capacitive touch sensor that is apparently yearning for connection. If you so much as brush your finger past it while picking it up, it starts a cycle. It’s annoying. If (when) this happens, just long-press the power button until it shuts up.
My Advice? Use it as a Pitcher.
If you treat this as a stationary “generator” on your kitchen counter, it’s great. Run a cycle, pour the water into a *different* glass to drink, and leave the device alone with its little puddle of maintenance water. It keeps the device clean and saves you from accidentally triggering it mid-sip.
Verdict
If you want to try high-quality hydrogen water without dropping $300+ on the big-name brands, this is a solid piece of kit. It likely uses a generic SPE membrane (I asked the company if it was a DuPont/Nafion membrane and got a vague “It’s SPE” non-answer), but it works well. Just don’t treat it like a Yeti you can toss in the sink. Treat it like a piece of lab equipment, and you’ll be happy.

The first unit I received was defective; the power button was faulty, causing the device to turn on and off randomly, not charge, and even leak. While customer service was excellent and promptly sent a replacement, the second unit also has issues. Its power button is unresponsive at times, and the battery indicator constantly shows a low charge, even when fully charged or plugged in.
Watching the bubbles and lights is a fun visual, but due to the recurring functional problems, I’m skeptical about the product’s ability to deliver its promised therapeutic benefits. While customer service was top-notch in handling the replacement, the product’s quality control needs significant improvement

I was initially worried about carrying a glass bottle in my work bag, but it’s held up well so far. The glass is clear, clean looking, and doesn’t scratch easily. The bubbles during generation are visible and satisfying to watch, which reassures me that it’s actually doing something. Both modes work well. 3 minute mode is perfect for quick use at work, and 10 minute mode feels like a deeper boost when I have more time. The taste of the water is one of the biggest wins for me. The water genuinely tastes cleaner and smoother than when I use plastic bottles. No weird aftertaste at all, which is probably thanks to the glass interior.

I had a very bad and concerning experience with the PUREPEBRIX Hydrogen Water Bottle Generator. While the bottle was sitting on my desk and charging in front of me, it suddenly exploded and the lid broke off. This was completely unexpected and honestly very scary, especially since I was sitting right there when it happened.
I was not using the bottle improperly—it was simply charging as intended. After this incident, I did not feel safe using the product anymore and immediately returned it.
