I wouldn’t consider this advanced. This is more like an informational narrative. There’s an overwhelming amount of personal examples in this book – which can be helpful with cardmeanings, if you’re just starting out with tarot. Advanced to me is a book with very esoteric meanings behind each card, associated deities, card combination interpretations, the planets and astrology behind each card, etc. This book doesn’t go that deep.
the interpretations are very basic.. like things we can find on Google. I do like that there are meanings of each card in love, career, health, etc. I would recommend this book to a beginner.

This book covers traditional meanings as well as how to read tarot for clients. It felt like the author is sitting next to you and is teaching you tarot. There are multiple spreads included along with explanations, which is very useful if you are a beginner. I totally loved it and learned a lot from this book. Thank you Paul Fenton Smith for such an amazing book.

Tarot is so deep and all encompassing. No matter what I read I feel like there are always more connections to explore. This book is a very good place to start and has a lot of very good information. Having said that I am very familiar with the occult but and kind of a tarot novice. But. I love it so far and this book is great.

This is not a bad book, but tarot can get really stale if you keep using the same old interpretations. I’m sick of reading the cards in this specific way. How are we to ever grow? We are fluid, changeable beings, and my perspective of life grows and changes as I grow and change. If I am forever locked into a loop of ‘general interpretations’ of the cards, I can never fully assess where I am in order to grow beyond. I won’t mention other books here, because I think it’s disrespectful to the author, and this is a worthy tome, if you aren’t ready to dive in deeper with the tarot, or you read for fun and pleasure and just want to memorize some things, or if you want to start a business and give surface readings (no harm in that, just not my thing). I use the tarot very, very heavily. It is my roadmap, thus, I wanted something to break me out of my habitual thinking and chose another book (two, actually) to do that so that I could interpret the signs better for myself. As such, I have been able to look at the cards with fresh eyes, so decided to send this one back so that I could break out of the loop of thinking. I’m sick of 3 of swords meaning heartbreak, or 7 of swords meaning lying cheating stealing or the devil telling us that we are living beyond our means. Tarot can be boundless, if you break away from the sort of ‘Hierophantic’ way of thinking with it. The goal is to eventually get to the point where the symbolism on the card directs you in a way that resonates with YOU and you alone. And you can only do that if you use a book that requires you to think, rather than giving you sort of generic or status quo interpretations. I never used to like the moon card because of this. But now the moon card is one of my favorite cards in the deck, and I do a lot of moon work. It’s sort of like dreams. You can’t trust dream bibles to interpret your dream. Spiders to me mean industry, fortune, wisdom, cunning (in a good way), survival, intelligence, solitude, maturity, but to others they may mean something horrible or dark or scary.

Update: I now have read about 100 books on the tarot. This book still takes the cake. Please make an Audible and Kindle version available of this book available and take my money.
Original review:
I own about 30 books on tarot at this point. Most of them have something different or valuable that you can take away. This book is hands down the most useful one I have come across. After a year of use, the amount of times that the incredibly specific situations described for a card have been the exact things that I or someone I was reading for, has been astounding to say the least.
Also if you are reading the popular and long 3 star review about this book and allowing it to influence your decision, I just want to say that the first few paragraphs of it are a complete misrepresentation and I just wish there was a mechanism for fact checking and refuting biased or false claims in the review system here.

When I’m reading tarot, and the spread is confusing me, I break out this book, and it clears things up so quick. Definitely a good basic staple for every tarot reading beginner or advanced.

I am truly enjoying this book. It is choke full of information, but what I like the most are the practical examples. Also, it contains some nice Tarot spreads. If you are looking for a book that will help you using Tarot for divination, this is it.

Bought this book at a metaphysical shop while on vacation but felt compelled to review it here. I wish I had found this book before the stack of other books on Tarot I have acquired. This book is by far the best I have found so far. I am a tarot beginner but I wanted something more than your run of the mills tarot book with card meanings and a few layouts. I really like the example readings and found them very helpful in doing my own.

This big is THICK with information. Highly informative, in depth explanation and straight to the point, no faffing about. Easy read. Quickly becoming one of my favorite guides to refer to.
