This product was recommended by my vet for my pet parrot whose liver enzymes were sky high and could cause liver failure in the future. After a month of giving him this holistic medicine it brought his liver enzyme numbers down by almost half. We continue to give it to him twice a day and he is due to go back to the vet to have his numbers checked again. So far I am very impressed with this product. Also this is the lowest price I found on the product which helps because he may have to be on it the rest of his life.
Just an update, my parrot went back to the veterinarian to have his liver enzymes checked again and he is back into the normal range. This product plus a modification in diet will probably add many years on to my parrot’s life. Would highly recommend if your bird has the health problem, but also check with your vet.

Our 11 year old 7lb chihuahua had a recent diagnosis of congestive heart failure. He’s taking Vetmedin and now on Animal Essentials Liver Defense for his cough from fluid buildup in his lungs. Within 2 days of taking the Liver Defense his coughs are very minimal if any at all and the wheezing is no longer there. He is also breathing much easier with less effort. The diuretic properties of this supplement really works and our dog seems to be more energetic as well. We also like the milk thistle ingredient which is good for the liver and the dandelion ingredients also have potassium which the body loses from diuretics. Highly recommend for pet owners looking for a natural diuretic for their dogs to help release the fluid buildup in the lungs/airways from heart disease.

****UPDATE AT BOTTOM****
My dog was diagnosed with stage 4 T call Lymphoma in her liver and lymph nodes 2.5 years ago and was given just weeks to live. We were told chemo would only extend her life 4-6 months, so we opted out. I then read about milk thistle and its amazing ability to heal the liver. Its true, it does work, or at least in her case it does. I normally order my dogs milk thistle from Pet Wellbeing, but this was almost half the price so I decided to buy it instead. However, and this is my fault because the ingredients are listed on the listing, this contains alcohol! I thought that dogs were never supposed to have alcohol? Not only that, but isnt alcohol BAD for the liver? So here I sit confused and afraid to use this, because there is very a strong alcohol scent.
I just thought I would bring this to the attention of other shoppers. Also, if the seller, or anyone else reading my review, can explain this to me I would really appreciate any info you can provide. Im pretty sure that other shoppers may be wondering the same thing. Again, I want to reiterate that the ingredients are listed on the listing of this product, so it is my fault for not noticing it before making my purchase (hence, my neutral three star rating).

I took this to my vet and was told to throw this out and only use milk thistle that does NOT contain alcohol. My vet recognizes the huge benefit of milk thistle for the liver and said that even some of the RX drugs for the liver contain milk thistle, but the alcohol is BAD for your pet. like I mentioned above and another customer agreed with me in the comments,…..the alcohol smell is STRONG. I will return to the more expensive Pet Well Being brand.

My 15 year old cat seems to be a bit more spunky, and he’s throwing up his food a lot less since mixing this into his canned food pate. He doesn’t notice the taste as far as he’s told me.

Perfect for keeping your animals liver health in check.
Cheaper than that $12000 vet bill

This tincture contains alcohol which is not in the description. It turned my dogs stool white, hard and brittle. It looked like white stones. That result is typically from too much calcium, which is also not listed. Be careful with all natural remedies.

My dog likes the taste and it even helped him to eat all of his food. Sometimes we have to put chicken so he can finish his food as he can get picky and tired is the same thing . He eats farmer’s dog wet food and still gets picky. This has always helped him with energy as I see him less lethargic and tired than when he doesn’t take it for some period of time.
Sluggish overly taxed liver can cause a lot of lethargy and he takes meds for pain and thyroid. Helping my senior dog with his major detox organ has helped him tremendously .

Tastes awful, made my cat foam at the mouth when administered with the dropper. I can see how it may work for dogs if mixed in with something yummy. Not for cats.

I love all things tincture for my 14 year young Yorkie who I give about 0.25ml of the squirt to. With any tincture make sure you twist the top closed tighter than you think you should because if any air gets inside it can create bacteria and it’s hard to see because the bottles are usually the dark color to protect it from the light since light can break down the components inside. So it might sound silly, but literally twist it tighter when you close it just to be sure. I give Bella two different tinctures after each meal.

This has more of an alcohol odor than expected. Label say grain alcohol USP 20%.
Left bottle with cover off sitting in a pan over pilot light for ~24hrs until most of the alcohol smell dissipated although volume of fluid reduced was less than 10%.
It is difficult to say that my cat is eating more because of this since he was also prescribed prednisone and switched to Hi-Tor Neo Diet for Cats at the same time.
If it’s working it doesn’t have a pronounced immediate effect. My cat’s appetite fluxuates from near normal to nothing. A couple months ago before the change in diet it was nothing and the vet recommended putting him down. He’s gained nearly 3 lbs and is getting around just fine. Not really sure if it’s this stuff but something is working.
