This Aztec Death Whistle is amazing!!! It’s also freaking huge. Way bigger than any of the other death whistles I’ve purchased for my son’s growing collection.
It’s crafted very well, the scream it produces is loud and obnoxious, just as expected. If you’re not ready to hear it scream, it’ll make you jump out of your skin.
I purchased the black one because of all the bright colors and jewel stones it displays.
When I got it out of the box, it was wrapped in 3 layers of protection including bubble wrap. It has a cord attached to wear around your neck.
It appears to be hand crafted.
This piece will be the star of the entire collection…
Until I purchase the white one for him. That one looks creepy as all gitout.
I’m happy with this purchase and the 5 stars are well deserved.
Product made in Mexico stamped on the box it comes in.

This product came on damaged and well packaged. It is amazing at creating a screaming sound and I have used it constantly and songs and for scaring my sister-in-law. It is beautiful and it is something that I really do like looking at during my day. Overall if you want an Aztec death whistle this works very well.

First off, this thing is just creepy. Not in a bad way, but in a fun kinda spooky way. My kids found it both terrifying and intriguing to look at, though it’s a bit fragile and should be carefully watched around little ones. Second, the sound. I’m not sure if it is this product in particular or a me issue, but I have a lot of trouble getting it to consistently make the more terrifying sounds. I played trumpet for almost 20 years, so I have good chops. But maybe that’s working against me somehow. In any case, when you get it just right it’s beautiful and haunting, and the unique design make this as much a visual centerpiece as an instrument.

Somehow, I have a small collection of these Aztec death whistles. This particular one easily wins first prize in the bathing suit contest, but comes in last place in the singing contest. I get more wheeze than death, if you will. It may be that my other whistles didn’t train me properly to blow into this particular whistle – so my lack of success may be pilot error.

This was a awesome gift for a special person. Very well made.

If you’ve never heard an Aztec death whistle, you absolutely need to. It’s handcrafted, authentically made from indigenous people, well worth the price they ask, and it’s durably made of natural materials (feels similar to a terracotta pot). I also love the detailed claws as part of the fierce decorations.
I really appreciate the company provided a little manual for how to perfect the scream feature, but I’d definitely suggest experimenting with it and trying different ways to position your fingers over the whistle’s vents. Additionally, I’ve noticed that if you’re standing right next to the whistle, it can sometimes sound more “airy” and doesn’t resemble a scream. However, this whistle becomes more impressive the further away you are from it, as it can give the impression of a shrieking, screeching howl being made at a distance. (To clarify, when you first use it it may sound like wind or wheezing to you, but people over a couple hundred feet away will note it sounds more like a screech.) So keep practicing until you find your perfect sound!
Also this beautiful and amazing whistle gets extra points because I used it to absolutely terrify my husband while he was walking our dog in our little forest a few hundred feet from the house. This is priceless for that alone. It’s also a great conversation piece to have in your living room or office. It’s beautifully made, durable, does its job authentically, and also encourages people to learn about other cultures and appreciate their amazing tools. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this whistle! Love love love it!!!

This is a great handmade, natural sound effect tool. It does fulfill the expectation of what a death whistle should sound like. The appearance is quite freakish and appears to be made from ceramic that has been smoothed over and painted, as well as glued on decorations that really add an extra bit of flair. Overall, I find that it can make sounds that will be useful for recordings and live sound situations. As well as being great for terrifying your friends. And possibly yourself.
The construction of the whistle is of pottery ceramic, and therefore the instrument has a bit of fragility. It came well packed and showed no sign of damage to transport. However, I do recommend keeping it protected since it does have the potential to crack as any ceramic piece would. You should consider a case if you plan to bring this around.
Generating sound is fairly simple, all you have to do is blow through this with a certain intensity to get a whistling effect. The sound is subtle, not like a traditional whistle. When you go loud I would describe the sound more like a bloodcurdling snarl/hiss from a large cat about to pounce. Or if you blow slowly, I could also think of this sound as mysterious voices from the world of the dead, coming to whisper in your ear. Either way it sounds terrifying. It should be noted that the sound isn’t not like a low frequency growl, more of an upper register thing.
This is the first death whistle that I have owned so I can’t compare the sound closely with another one, but having heard this kind of instrument on the past, I can say that I’m happy with how this one sounds. Overall, if you are looking for a really wild noise maker, this will certainly do the trick!
