Inspired by Sailor Jerry Collins’s old-school tattoo flash and outsider art, the second edition of Bonefire Tarot brings you 78 energetic hand-painted Tarot cards with a 248-page companion book.
This new edition has nine new cards, new text, and a completely redesigned package. It plunders time and space for universal symbols and features reimagined images to help you discover purpose-giving creativity. The archetypal energies of the Major Arcana figures represent figures in our lives, or aspects of ourselves or situations we are bound to encounter. The Minor suits have their own look and set of common symbols and are concerned with life’s little details.

I considered returning Bonefire Tarot until I read the included guidebook. Smart move for the creator to write & include the book because the artwork is nice, but the book makes it great.
The cards are a fantastic size (height & width), but they’re made from the thickest, hardest card stock – there’s no give to the cards when I shuffle so I worry about damage and have to shuffle strategically.
I would only recommend this deck for collectors (not pro readers OR beginners) and only if it’s on sale.

I have the 1st edition of Bonefire tarot and like it very much. The only problem is that it’s quite shiny. I was very excited to find out that there is a new edition that is matte. I ordered it promptly and… was disappointed with it. Yes, the non glossy finish is very nice BUT the colours are not as vibrant (they look dull and washed-out). The cards are cropped too much, so they lost not only the borders (which are necessary since the cards are very busy) but also part of the art. I sent the new deck back and trimmed the titles off my old cards. I really like them now. See the photos: 1. – 2. Comparison between 1st and 2nd edition. 3. Trimmed 1st edition.

If you’re looking for a deck that you can read intuitively, this one will not disappoint. The square shape makes it perfect for small hands like mine. Its my fav deck right now

The only negative thing I have to say is that when I was separating the cards, the red edging pulled a bit of the card picture it was attached to. Other than that I love the size for my small hands, borderless is awesome, artwork is busy but I like that. I’m really happy overall.

I love the art, the matte finish and the size. I would prefer they had a border to contain the busy art work. The size is great for smaller hands. It’s an extremely easy deck to read. Great symbols for intuitive reading. The guide book is great with larger font than the first addition. The art needs a border so I prefer the 1st addition over this 2nd addition. The 2nd addition has a better guide book but the color saturation is muted. Con: The borderless images have been cropped a bit. You don’t get the entire image of each card as shown on the first addition. If I didn’t have the other deck I wouldn’t have known or missed the cropped of art. I appreciate both decks.

I’ve seen comparisons between the first and second editions, and ultimately I decided on getting this second edition. I prefer the smaller, better quality book in this edition. I like that the cards are borderless now and don’t have double titles (the artwork already has the titles in them). I like the red edges which are surprisingly holding up well after shuffling. The cards are matte in this second edition. I don’t mind gloss as long as it’s not high gloss that makes the cards stick together. I like that the deck isn’t split into two in the box like in the first edition. This deck overhands and riffle shuffles well.
Now, for the few negatives. The card stock is thicker and stiff, so while I can riffle shuffle them, it’s not the most comfortable experience. I knew going in that in this second edition the artwork isn’t as vibrant as it was before, but The Fool card here is really washed out, even compared to the other cards in this version of the deck. Not sure what happened there. While I like most of the changes that were made to the artwork, I do really prefer the first edition Empress card over this new one. The cards are very busy, so a black border isn’t the worst thing, though you if separate them enough on a neutral background, it’s not too bad.
Overall, this is a good version of the deck. The biggest problem for me here is the washed out Fool card. Since I do like vibrant colors and don’t mind glossy card stock as long as I can shuffle it well, I will probably end up getting the first version of the deck as well if the price is right.
UPDATE: I did end up getting the first edition as well. While the cards are glossy, I have no problem with them. They’re not high gloss or anything so they don’t stick together at all. The images are more vibrant and colorful and the black borders help frame the image. The cards are a bit on the thicker side, but since they’re larger than the second edition, they’re easier to shuffle. The book in the first edition is large and has a tiny font and a lot of white space, so I’m not sure what the thinking was there. The images in the second edition are cropped/zoomed in. If you only have the second edition, that won’t bother you, but if you compare the images with the first edition, some of the cropping is annoying (there’s a bird in a tree in the Knight of Swords that’s cut off in the second edition). Overall, I’m glad I have both editions.

Dudaba en comprarlo, como ya tenía la primera edición vi que no era conveniente hacerlo. Pero me animé y no me arrepiento. Me encanta! mucho mejor que la primera edición y con éste si conecté y hago unas muy buenas lecturas.
