This is a very nice looking deck with art that I find very appealing. The cards themselves are on pretty good quality stock, and are edged in a shiny blue gilding. It looks awesome, and feels like a very high quality deck of cards. Unfortunately, the booklet included wasn’t made with the same care and attention to quality. The interpretations are pretty shallow, and the book itself is shoddily made, with pages falling out almost immediately upon use, which was very disappointing to me.
Another problem I have is that, while I do love the art and imagery, it foregoes much of the traditional iconography of the tarot. And what that means is that it’s sort of hard to intuitively interpret these cards for a reading. So you either need to keep the booklet handy, or memorize the interpretations. So I’d say this probably wouldn’t be suitable for a beginner, in terms of interpretation.
My main focus on a tarot deck, however, is the art work. It’s like a miniature museum or art exhibit. That’s where this deck shines. It’s a cool mixture of surreality, high fantasy, and anthropomorphized animals. I really enjoyed the aesthetic of this deck, despite the fact that it abandons tradition in most cases. I would say this is a good deck if you’re like me, and more interested in the artwork, but maybe avoid it if you’re looking for a deck for actual oracle work or interpretation.

The card stock is pretty good quality, but not overly exceptional. I think the current list price seemed a little high, but the sale price I have seen multiple times seems more than reasonable. The book it comes with is a good initiation and quick reference for card meanings. The foil sides is attractive and the cards are comfortable to use and don’t stick too bad, but could use a coating to make them less likely to stick. Also for shuffling, I like cards that bulge slightly in the center (i.e. slightly thinner at the edges than the center to make them not get caughon eachother while shuffling and keep them from sticking from air pressure). These are probably not expensive enough to have a feature like that. And the color could be a little more intense, but these are kind of a muted style, so it’s not quite as big of a deal.
Overall, great beginner deck with a nice style.

These cards are really beautiful and feel special to use. The artwork is so pretty and detailed, and the blue foil edges make it look really fancy. The guidebook is helpful and not too hard to follow, even for someone like me who’s still learning. Only thing is the cards are a little stiff at first, so shuffling was tricky in the beginning. But overall I love this deck and reach for it all the time.

When I was first offered this tarot deck for review through Vine, I thought “Oh, yeah, tarot. That’s what my mother was into when I was in college in the seventies.” I ordered it and, in preparation for reviewing it, I got a few tarot apps, a Rider-Waite-Smith deck, and the Herbal Tarot deck (thinking that, because I’m a gardener, that would appeal to me). Well, this Majestic Realm Tarot was several months getting here, and a good thing, too, because during that time I’ve been really studying. As a complete beginner, I probably would not have appreciated this deck as much as I am able to now. If you are beginner who is not yet into the more esoteric and mystical elements of the tarot, you might start out with a RWS deck and wait on this one…or just dive into it! It lends itself so well to intuitive readings and free associations.
I’ve tried to capture in photographs all the cards, but there is a bit of a shine to them so the lighting interferes a bit. I immediately noticed that the major arcana are not numbered, and The Hanging Man is not upside down. There is absolutely no reason you can’t swap the order of the Strength and Justice cards, if you are so inclined. The backs of the cards are uniform and seamlessly reversible.
When I saw the images of this deck online, my reaction to it was that it’s a rather masculine deck, but now that I’ve had the deck physically in my hands, I see it’s not as simple as that. Some cards scream “corporate” and some are more Victorian and centuries-past in feel. The animal cards dominate the deck, which brings in an element of shamanism (power animals, etc.) or connote books you might have read like Animal Farm or Lord of the Flies. The overall effect of the whole deck is one of surreality, but the individual cards are not densely Daliesque. Although the cards at first seem a little spare, there is plenty to discover if you allow your intuition to hold sway. It’s almost like your own reality bleeds into them, and what more can you ask for than that?
One thing I really like about the suits is that, unlike the RWS decks, you don’t have all one thing for the wands, cups, swords, and pentacles/coins. For example, in the swords, you might have actual swords in one card but artists’ paintbrushes in another. The coins might wind up being clock faces or even bananas. In some cases, the figures in the cards represent the suit without there being any extra symbols, like in the 6 of Wands, represented by five rooster-headed men in suits with a badass-looking rooster perched on top of the middle man’s head. Looking at that one card just now, I see the funny pun, and I sense these cards have a major richness of symbolism that promises to unfold for me with time.
I am drawn to tarot for doing intuitive inner work and to exercise my creative faculties that have rather atrophied in this world of constant digital firehosiery. I’m excited to have this deck to work with, and it’s a good quality standard-sized deck that’s a pleasure to hold. I love the blue edging! I have blue bottles in all my windows and in my garden, so that alone makes me feel very connected to this deck.

The quality of the deck is great, the cards are thick and the edges are nice. The artwork on the cards is beautiful! As tarot cards, it seems like you can make them work, though not everything may translate perfectly from a traditional tarot deck. I don’t have much of any experience with tarot so I can’t speak to that, and the booklet doesn’t provide all that much information on its own.

Beautiful artwork. If you are a new reader you might not have much practice in the way of intuitive reading judging by the imagery, but reading through the booklet will help until you get your own practice with the deck. The cards have a night weight and thick stock so not easily bendable and keep their shape nicely. They shuffle nicely and have a hefty feel to them. The took a long time to ship.
