I recently tried Death Wish Whole Bean Coffee in their Espresso roast, and I must say it delivers a bold and intense flavor that is perfect for espresso enthusiasts. Here’s why I believe it deserves a four-star rating:

    1. Rich and Robust Taste: The Death Wish Espresso roast lives up to its promise of providing a strong and powerful flavor profile. The coffee delivers a rich, dark, and full-bodied taste with hints of chocolate and a pleasant bitterness. It packs a punch that is sure to satisfy those who prefer a strong cup of espresso.

    2. High Caffeine Content: As the name suggests, Death Wish Coffee is known for its high caffeine content, and the Espresso roast is no exception. If you’re looking for a coffee that will give you a strong caffeine kick to jumpstart your mornings or keep you energized throughout the day, this coffee delivers. It’s perfect for those who need an extra jolt of energy.

    3. Freshly Roasted and Whole Beans: Death Wish takes pride in their commitment to providing freshly roasted coffee beans. The whole bean format allows you to grind the coffee just before brewing, ensuring maximum freshness and flavor retention. The aroma that fills the room when you grind these beans is truly delightful.

    4. Versatile Brewing Options: While Death Wish Espresso roast is specifically marketed for espresso, it can also be used in other brewing methods such as French press or drip coffee. This versatility allows you to enjoy its bold flavor in various ways, making it a great choice for coffee lovers who appreciate flexibility.

However, there are a couple of considerations to keep in mind:

    1. Strong Bitterness: The bold flavor profile of Death Wish Espresso roast comes with a significant level of bitterness. While this may be appealing to some, others who prefer a smoother or milder taste in their espresso might find it overpowering.

    2. Limited Complexity: While the coffee offers a robust and intense flavor, it lacks some of the nuanced complexities that can be found in other specialty coffee options. If you enjoy exploring a wide range of flavors and undertones in your espresso, you may find the Death Wish Espresso roast somewhat one-dimensional.

In conclusion, Death Wish Whole Bean Coffee in the Espresso roast is a great choice for those who crave a strong and intense cup of espresso. Its rich flavor, high caffeine content, and freshness make it a reliable option for those seeking a bold coffee experience. Just be aware that it may be too bitter for some palates, and it lacks the complexity found in other specialty coffee offerings. If you appreciate a no-nonsense, powerful espresso, this coffee is worth a try.

El café es fuerte y suave. Quizás le falte un toque de amargor para mi gusto. Pero en general bastante bien.

this is good coffee. the best i’ve tried. it has chocolate and marshmellow and strawberry and blackberry and cinnamon vanilla and mint and smoked tobacco taste. it grinds to a really oily even consistency and it is a antioxidant flavor high taste i like. it has made dark tiger stripes in big contrast brewed in 36 ml double 18 grms

OK being real here. I DON’T want to review this coffee. Why? Because I am terrified that so many people are going to discover it that I won’t be able to GET it anymore! I am a huge coffee snob. Hate Starbucks, or any coffee shop. I prefer to make it on my own. And I am not afraid to experiment and spend more when I find one I really love. THIS is it. It has been my go-to for a year now. It is the perfect bold flavor, very low acidity, the aroma is amazing. I prefer whole beans to grind myself each time and have the freshest possible but they do have ground as well. Ok there, just leave me some please!!!

My Death Wish Coffee arrived promptly Wednesday afternoon, and I had to wait until this morning to taste and review, as I did not want to spend the wee hours of Thursday morning spinning around the house like a whirling dervish, waking the children as I came down off my Death-Wish tweak..
As it turns out, I probably would not have torn the drywall off the studs, or ripped up the hardwood floors looking for treasure, but what I did find, was a great cup of coffee this morning.
I brewed my Death Wish to spec, with a 2.5 TB scoop, and used my Vietnamese Coffee Filter Set. I did not want any paper filter, no rubber or plastic to interfere with my brewing, and I have perfected the grind and the timing to get a perfect, full-bodied cup of coffee from this set.
Coffee smelled great out of the bag, and after grinding, filled the kitchen with a great dark-coffee aroma. I have become enough of a coffee snob to smell fresh beans from old, and believe it or not, the sound they make falling into the burr grinder is tell-tale of fresh stock or old. These seemed fresh to me, and the box had a best-by date of May 2017. Nothing on the bag itself to indicate the roast/pack date, and that is something that I would like to see, but nonetheless, the beans seemed fresh.
Burr-Grinder set to just two clicks shy of medium-fine, and the ground coffee was jet black and smelled great. Not as “dark” smelling as a French Roast or Espresso, but darker tones for sure. Not as much chocolate and walnuts as was described, but a good scent. Just off the boil, at 202 degrees I bloomed the initial pour with a half ounce for twenty seconds, and then filled up the 8cm Filter to the top.
Timer set for 4 minutes, and when the timer went off, I was just at the very end of the brew, and I added another two ounces of water at 195 degrees, to complete the last thirty seconds. Typically I will brew just the 8cm and add hot water Americano-style, but for this initial test, I wanted full strength with grind-pour only.
Initial sip had great dark nose, not very floral, no cherries or fruit for me, but a nutty, burnt-toast sip. The smell paired nicely with dark-roast properties, and I had a good balance of nose and flavor, right from sip one.
Overall, this roast had similar notes to a French as far as the flavor, and I suspect these guys experimented a great deal with just how close they could get to the precipice before they over-roasted the beans, and ended up with beans that were too well done.
As far as the caffeine levels go, I am going to be honest and admit to being a 10-12 cup a day guy, so I did not notice any crazy uptick in my heightened awareness, or cosmic intervention that was brought on by the surplus of caffeine in the beans. I purposely brewed with my stainless filter kit, so I did not take away any oil, flavor, or have any taste properties tainted by outside flavor-changers. I brewed full-strength, per instructions, and ended up with a dark, great-tasting brew, but cannot report any real caffeine-related differences physiologically.
The coffee tasted really good, seemed freshly roasted- based on smell, color and bean condition, and I did not end up with a lot of chaff or unwanted extras within the grinding process. I will report back and update if I do notice any extra jolt this coffee provides, but I feel my caffeine intake is high enough, this is not going to be a selling point for me personally.
The bottom line for me is taste, and this is good coffee, which I enjoyed.

Never want another coffee. I can’t rave enough about the quality and taste (not bitter!) of their original dark roast. Smooth and delicious, always. Their website sucks you in with all the options and merch. Great to find a sale price!

Well, after reading the previous reviews, I thought this coffee was worth a try. There appear to be two sides on the review platform; those who don’t think it’s that strong, and those who are so affected by the caffeire that they must be wimps!

For what it’s worth, here is my opinion of this wonderful coffee! True, it is strong, but it is definitely not bitter. Some coffee producers use a lot of “robusta” beans to give their coffee a kick – the more robusta beans, the more bitter the coffee.

I would guess there isn’t very much robusta in the Death Wish, in fact it’s probably the finest tasting coffee I have ever tried. It is darkly roasted and has a wonderfully rounded flavour that plays with the taste buds. This is where it gets interesting; as the flavour casual

This is the best coffee beans I have ever encountered. Dark. Smooth. Tasty. Not bitter. And does not upset my very sensitive stomach. Not sure how this blend is so perfect. I don’t plan on sampling any other beans for the next foreseeable future. Im probably a coffee connoisseur and have sampled the highest rated bean roasters on Amazon for the past couple of years. Worth every dollar. Just try it. You probably won’t be sorry.

I’m a big fan of strong coffee and once I saw this was available I thought I have to try it.
I was expecting the flavour to be bad but it’s actually one of the best flavours out there and its pretty smooth……..HOWEVER, my first try I could feel the caffeine running through my veins like a surge of power and I was becoming pretty productive too! I did notice my hunger had been suppressed considerably and I didn’t eat too much for a couple of days.

I have been drinking this for 2 weeks now and love it, don’t try and stop drinking it though…………the come downs a b*#ch!

10/10 BEST ESPRESSO I HAVE EVER HAD. Don’t buy any other one I wish this was the first I had bought because this is the only espresso I will be buying indefinitely. I’m still shocked at how good this home brewed espresso was, way better than anything I could get at Starbucks or Peet’s. This is your sign to buy this one, the reviews are telling the truth! I want to add that this one doesn’t have that weird acidic taste when you drink it and honestly this espresso is just everything to me right now. 10/10 love it

My new favorite espresso. The flavor is a chocolatey caramel hue. Strong coffee flavor without bitterness. I don’t know how they did it!!! Love that it’s organic too. These beans are dark and fresh. They grind well. Also, it doesn’t not upset my GI tract, if you catch my drift. I use it in my Moka pot and it’s so yummy. I’m honesty so happy to have given Death Wish a try.

It makes a seriously great cup of coffee. Highly recommend if you’re into a rich dark roast without the harsh aftertaste.
