I try to keep a regular stock of meal-replacement shakes to have for lunch on those days when I’m too busy or low-appetite to sit down and eat a solid meal.
Before I decided to buy this (Ensure Max Protein shakes), I actually sat down and thoroughly cross-compared it with all the other meal-replacement shakes/powders I’ve tried in the past, including:
1. Original Ensure shakes
2. Soylent
3. Huel
4. GNC Total Lean shakes
(Note: as a certified choco-holic, I’ve only tried the chocolate flavor for all of these products, of course.)
I evaluated each of these meal-replacement shakes based on:
1. Their overall nutritional value (for me, this meant: how much protein, fiber, and vitamins I could get in proportion to the calories in 1 serving),
2. The average price per serving.
To my surprise, the Ensure Max Protein shakes were actually the all-around winner! They’re slightly cheaper than the other options (including their Original Ensure shake sisters, somehow?), and yet they’re also higher in protein, fiber, *and* lower in calories. It’s crazy how far modern food technology has come! 🤩
Flavor-wise, they taste fairly close to the Original Ensure shakes (for reference: I go crazy for the taste of original Ensure. Idk why, but the flavor is kind of nostalgic, and I kind of love the slightly metallic/iron-ish aftertaste lol), but these Max Protein shakes are a bit grainier. This is to be expected though, since they’re higher in protein.
TL;DR: I already did the product research/comparison for you. This is the best option—in terms of price, nutrition, and caloric content!

Lo lamento mucho.

Great Taste, High Protein, and Easy Nutrition
I’ve been trying the Ensure Max Protein shakes in French Vanilla, and they’ve become one of my go-to choices for quick nutrition. Each shake packs 30 grams of protein in a compact 11-ounce bottle, which is very efficient for days when I don’t have time for a full meal but want something filling. The taste is smooth and creamy without being overly sweet—closer to a lightly flavored vanilla latte than a heavy dessert.
I like that it has just 1 gram of sugar and includes 4 grams of fiber, so it doesn’t give me that sugar rush and crash that some other shakes do. The texture is on the thinner side compared to some protein shakes, which actually makes it easier to drink. I also noticed it mixes well if I pour it over ice or even blend it with a banana for a more filling smoothie.
One thing to keep in mind is that the flavor is subtle—if you’re used to sweeter drinks, this may take some getting used to. Also, while it works well as a meal replacement in a pinch, it’s more of a protein supplement than a fully balanced meal.
Bottom line: A convenient, low-sugar, high-protein shake with a smooth vanilla flavor that’s easy to drink and perfect for busy days or post-workout recovery.

I like these because they are high protein, low calorie and low sugar. They help curb my appetite and keep my diet on track in-between meals. Tastes pretty good and is enough to fix a sweet craving. I was happy to purchase 2 cases during Prime Day at a very nice discount.

These taste good on ice and don’t cause any gastric issues. I ordered the chocolate without added caffeine. Tastes just like chocolate milk in my opinion. I add a little milk and ice since I don’t like it as thick. Pricey but good.

I’m not good about eating 3 times a day so I have one of these for breakfast. They taste good and fill me up. The best part, lots of protein and essential nutrients.

My doctor recommended I drink these before surgery. I started then, but keep them on hand for a quick easy breakfast or lunch when I know I won’t get a lot of protein that day. The taste isn’t bad alone, but I usually put them in my ninja with some fruit—a banana and cocoa, some blueberries, or whatever fresh or frozen fruit I have on hand. It would be 5 stars if the taste was just a little better. I updated this fron 4 to 5 starts because I’ve discovered new ways to drink Ensure. I’ve been getting vanilla now. I mix it half and half with coffee and add cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s good either cold over ice or hot. It tastes just like a Starbucks skinny vanilla latte, only with a lot of protein and a lot less cost. Try it!

my grandma used to drink these and I remember thinking…wow, I hope I never get so old that I have to drink my protein…well guess what?? These things are really good. High in protein, stacked with vitamins, and taste amazingly good. Grandma was on to something.

Taste was good, just to me did not have a cherrý cheesecake flavor. I am not sure what I was expecting, however, the thickness/texture was good to me. The flavor was not bad. Size was good. Cost is kinda prixey, but overall I feel that the protien shakes were good & the amount of protien per sering was good.
Wayne & Susan –
Mother in law uses it/ she drinks it every day, once per day. Usually at night. They are about the right size and taste wonderful. And she said they have the vitamin & minerals she needs. She thinks they are a good value and they are good for you. They fill her up and satisfies her hunger. She highly recommends them. She likes the milk chocolate best, not the dark chocolate.

A little spendy, but worth it. The protein is great for keeping muscle while losing weight. I’m not a weightlifter, but muscle is still important. It’s premixed, so a shake is all I give it, which technically isn’t even necessary lol. It’s about the size of a soda, but skinnier a bit. Despite the slightly smaller volume, it is way more filling and nutritious than most soda obviously. You could definitely mix this into a smoothie or milkshake, it tastes good on its own as a standout ingredient, it’d be hard to go wrong. I think most people prefer the texture cold, but I like it room temp. I feel it has more flavor that way. The texture isn’t slimey or goopy, like some brands out there. It has a clean and fresh mouthfeel, like a regular drink but tastier. Milkshake in a bottle lol. For mixability, I recommend peanut butter, milk, bananas, or like ores and ice cream. Definitely follow a recipe. Blenders seem easy till you’re wondering why smoothies are so hard to make. Just follow a f****ing recipe lol.

This is delicious! It even has enough caffein to equal a cup of coffee. I never get sick of it. The other flavors are blah. This one is a winner. I am a type 2 diabetic and use this to hold me from lunch until dinner. Low carb. I can’t recommend this highly enough 🙂

It was a good deal at Amazon. I never tried this flavor before but it did turn out tasting like bottled mocha drinks, pretty smooth with a little feeling of chalkiness. I like vanilla flavor more however, but it’s just personal preference. I like how it provides 30g of protein in one go. I am not a subscriber because I don’t really need it constantly, so hpefully the discount deal will come in more often (and for vanilla flavor too!).

Smooth taste used to up protein consumption . Helps with som nutritional deficiencies . Good product

It’s a good value for the money. Also, the
Protein count is high 30 mg and the calorie count is low 150.
The drink is not as thick as Boost, but, the flavor is tasty. I bought it again

Todo bien, el sabor es muy dulce sabe a nesquick de fresa

The taste is similar to chocolate milk. They’re a bit expensive, but an easy, convenient way to boost protein intake, without adding a lot of calories. They are best cold. Don’t allow them to freeze and then thaw (shipped to a cold location where they freeze outside before being brought inside), they will be ruined.
KRS –
I love this high protein drink which, at my age, is absolutely necessary to ensure that I get all the micronutrients that are required for a healthy diet. I honestly notice a difference in my energy and strength since I started my Ensure regimen. And, best of all, I like the texture and taste of this product.
House of Teds –
They taste great if you are on a GLP1 and your tastebuds have changed like mine have. To me, they taste just like a dairy queen milkshake.
Put them in the freezer and let them get to the consistency of an actual shake, they are especially good if you let them get some ice crystals going like with real ice cream.
The texture is great without freezing too. But always drink them cold for the best taste.
I like to wait around here for them to go on sale. They will have decent sales here from time to time, like 20 dollars for a 12 pack! I buy as much as I can when the sales hit.
I think they are a better value for us GLP1’ers than some of the fancy GLP1 protein products out there that are twice or more expensive than Ensure. Ensure is what my doctor recommends so unless you are vegan or have an allergy to something in these they are your best option for boosting protein and nutrients while on a GLP1.
AD44HMC –
The Ensure Cafe Mocha tastes like a bottled Stabucks Cafe Mocha only with 30 grams or protein and only ONE GRAM of sugar, 150 calories & 100 mg of caffeine. We love it. It is a great way to increase your protein intake.
Karmybarbie –
One of my favorite protein shakes and is worth the money. The shake is easy to open and mixes pretty well. It tastes amazing and i cant believe its a healthy protein shake. The flavor doesn’t taste overly sickening and it keeps m full until lunch time. If you shake iot well there shouldnt be any clumping.

This protein drink is the best! Packed with 30 Grams of protein, it keeps you feeling great while rushing about your day! The flavor is exceptional! I know, because I have tried others! I just noticed have already ordered it 11-12 tins before! You should give it a try!
5 Stars!M⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have lifted weights for more than 50 years and find Ensure Max Protein to be a very good source of protein as a supplement to my regular diet. Tastes good!
Jack ‘n Sue Lap –
Ensure is an excellent product but the Cafe Mocha taste wasn’t as good as some of their other flavors. It was ok, but little less than good. Taste is very subjective, however.
Deborah Pigfish –
I’ve been on a liquid/soft food diet for some months now and lucked out that these went on sale for a while. Currently the Mocha flavor is under $20 for a 12-pack. Otherwise, it’s difficult to manage a well balanced diet, especially with fiber. I’m still a few months off being able to chew.
obrss –
Low in sugar and salt and the taste is not too sweet. Price is lower than most protein drinks so it is a bargain.
Steven Bornman –
Because of my autoimmune disease I lost weight, and whatever foods I ate my body doesn’t absorb it. Ensure helps keep me stable. Taste is okay, but has an aftertaste though. Worth the money.
Skydiver –
I bought this after having “regular” Ensure in a hospital. Ensure Max Protein has more protein and calcium than regular Ensure, with about half the calories. That being said, I thought the flavor was awful. It didn’t have a rich flavor like the regular. It tasted more watered down and had a bad aftertaste. I bought 24 of them, and while I’ve been able to choke most of them down, I’ll be buying something else in the future.

I was concerned these shakes would taste chalky or medicinal, but I was nicely surprised. My husband and I have been working hard to lose weight while maintaining nutrition, and obviously, more protein is one of the best ways to do that. We’ve tried a variety of flavors, but for both of us, the chocolate is the best tasting. It actually tastes like chocolate milk. The shakes are low-calorie and high protein, so they do keep you full for a while, but it is my understanding that they should not be used as a full meal replacement all the time. There are other shakes by the same brand that are better suited for that purpose. The individual shake boxes themselves are sturdy and not likely to be crushed and messy as long as you’re careful, but we typically pour them into tumblers anyway. We usually don’t get tired of the chocolate flavor, but if we do feel a little jiggy and want something different, we use these as a base for smoothies and add bananas or frozen fruit into them. Overall, they’re pretty much a staple in our home now.
