The media could not be loaded.

Please do not put too much if you igniting it in a room. Put like 1 tear on there if it’s a small bedroom, then you wait until it died out and then you put another on. It’s very good, but when I put too much on there, it’s set my whole house’s alarms off. For the amount and the quality I would give it a 5/5! Very dense and thick smoke, which I do like, but do not for the love of God put it anywhere near a smoke alarm!

I’m not super impressed. I feel certain not all of this is pure frankincense. The smell is inconsistent.

This product seems great. Small pebbles not the big blobs, you probably have to pay more for that. It smells best when the coal brick is at the beginning and not the end of its cycle but that is not the fault of the resin. That’s just life.

I have seen complaints, many of them equating it to the smell of car tires burning. I doubt many people have actually smelled burning car tires and furthermore I think these folks are most likely similar to the people who complain about fish tasting fishy. So many people have only ever eaten breaded fried fish likely sourced from Sysco but nonetheless they have an opinion and their opinion is about as valuable as Sysco fish.

The poor folks gathering resin from trees in the tropics or the desert are not including bits of car tire. Come on folks, catch a fish, cook a fish and eat that fish and SFTU. You know nothing.

This is a perfectly fine product, click with abandon and enjoy the aromas even if the end is a bit bitter.

Decent import, and a surprisingly good, long-lasting chewing gum, although there seem to be trace impurities in the sap. (Maybe that’s to be expected?)

I burned this stuff over a charcoal incense disk and it smelled great. A bit musky and sweet, with a hint of citrus. It’s a bright smell overall. You only need to burn one or two beads at a time, this is stuff can be potent if you burn too much at once. I made that mistake when I first used it, I put a few decent sized pinches on to start and it was so much smoke I had to open a window. I say that to say, a little goes a long way. And since this is a 1lb bag, I expect this will last me for a long time.

In my opinion, this is an outstanding product at a reasonable price. I love the scent, but it is probably an acquired taste. Having spent time in monasteries, I have learned to enjoy the scent of frankincense burned in the thurible along with myrrh. Whenever I burn it at home, it reminds me of my times of private retreat. I burn it during my prayer time each evening.

Hints & Tips: A little goes a long way. Just 3-5 pebbles will emit a strong scent that can easily waft through an entire house in a short time. It requires a good deal of heat to melt the resin. (When thinking of resin, think of hard, dried tree sap that is no longer sticky.) I use small charcoal disks that you can buy on Amazon. I light the charcoal inside a small censer on a metal stand. (Do not leave it unattended and do not burn it in a small closet or where smoke inhalation could become a problem.) After the charcoal is emitting a lot of heat, I drop 3-5 little pebbles of resin onto the burning charcoal.

I love the aroma. Some people mix it with cedar or myrrh, but I enjoy the scent of frankincense by itself.

On my third purchase, now, and I have to say, very true to their description. Pea size frankincense, smells lovely burning on charcoal outside, and these pebble like sized resins can be applied by hand to a hot coal without worrying about spillage or burning.

No off scent here, an excellent product, with an excellent price point for high quality. Highly recommended.

Good quality, burns well, and gives off a pleasant scent. Comes in an ample bag that is more pebble size than pea.

I’m really happy with this Govinda Frankincense. The resin pieces are clean, fresh, and a nice pea size, just as described. The aroma is rich and authentic, and it works perfectly for burning and other natural uses. You get a generous amount for the price, and the quality feels pure and natural. I would definitely purchase again and recommend it to anyone looking for real frankincense.

I normally buy my resins sustainably through the big e-commerce site that starts with E and ends with y, from a wonderful Apothecary’s garden. (That is basically the name, you can search it there). This is my emergency and cheap stash, but it is certainly NOT sustainably harvested, and that is why it is so cheap.

This is one of many varieties of frankincense: likely Boswellia Papyrifera, because it is from Ethiopia.

It IS edible as are all “tears”of frankincense. It has many many health benefits — even common pharmaceutical level efficacy — anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory and other amazing results stopping diseases well — backed up by peer-reviewed published science; you can search this on Google Scholar or pubmed and more.

(By the way, essential oil of frankincense does NOT have the same health-giving compounds called boswellic acids, that are found in a few whole-resin varieties of frankincense, or the boswellia genus of trees. The healthy compounds are only in the WHOLE RESIN if you are consuming it. The resin “tears” can be consumed by dropping a few of the nuggets into hot water to make a tea — just leave the tears in the cup and sip all day, resteeping. It can also be ground into a powder with a mortar and pestle — preferably brass to counteract the sticky tendancies, and the powder can be swallowed whole — my husband loves it straight — or mixed into yogurt or sprinkled onto honey toast, among many other ways of consuming it.)

Of course you can burn this resin on charcoal, but I prefer to place it into an electric burner, into a little empty aluminum votive cup (for easy clean-up) atop the electric burner cup area (my favorite that has lasted years is called Golden Lotus Electric Incense Heater; don’t be fooled by the ones here on Amazon as they have all broken on me within a couple of months. The one I named here is purchased elsewhere, just google the name. Yes it is a bit expensive but it will last forever, and you do not have to inhale smoke. I have left that burner on for MONTHS without fail, actually years without turning it off, and it keeps going. Put the resin in a little empty votive cup — or make a cup of aluminum foil — and put it on the burner and let it go all day long, or all night long, or both. I change it once a day. Of course you can swap other resin types, like copal or myrrh.

This frankincense gets bad reviews here mainly because people think it is so cheap that it must be fake — It is most certainly not fake. I think some have received older batches as a few have complained of no scent. I have bought this about once a year for years and years, and it has always had light scent. I buy pounds of frankincense of many varieties a year, almost all at high prices. Those other that are higher prices are sourced where trees are left intact, the region is not stripped of frankincense, the trees and surrounds are not damaged, and the local people are paid fairly and well. Those frankincense batches at higher sustainable prices are like smelling heaven, and each variety has a slightly different scent.

THIS frankincense when fresh has a decently good scent and works in a pinch, but should not be the go-to for purchasing because the price proves it is strip harvested and the people are paid little (or a corporation is making the money, no local people). The trees are scraped of all resin, and likely damaged in the process. There is no resin left for miles around, for other animals or for the tree’s healing. That is why I do not recommend this source, but I rate it well enough.

It DOES have Boswellic acids which are anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer and a myriad of other benefits (go to Google scholar and search for boswellic acids, the results are legend and are surely only unknown because of the pharmaceutical industry).

There are 5 varieties of frankincense that have these acids, but papyrifera also has a couple of other components that are hard to find: Incensole and incensole acetate. The most well known varieties with these healing boswellic acids are boswellia sacra and boswellia carterii. There are a couple of others, research can point them out.

If you want to consume this frankincense for health reasons, keep track of the amount you are preparing for dosage control, and powder the incense. I used a cheap rotary coffee grinder. Since part of Frankincense is oil soluble and part is water soluble, mixing the powder into a small amount of heavy whipping cream works well, so you can get it thoroughly mixed in that small amount and then add additional cream to your personal tastes. BTW this method also works well with curcumin….

I’ve been buying this brand for years, it burns well and a few pieces of resin will have your whole house smelling amazing in no time. I also use this to make a “milk” for my skin care products.
