The vivid colors are nice, and the cards have a good feel in the hand. For some reason I thought they would be a little bit darker in mood, but they are more fantasy/new age/comic book in style and lean more towards pretty than brutal. They stick pretty closely to the Rider-Waite imagery, but with a vivid and contemporary illustration style. The effect is very good though. If one is already used to reading the RW images but wants a more vibrant and graphic deck this would be a good option.
I guess I’m lucky, I don’t seem to have a defective deck. I ordered mine much later, so maybe there was just a bad run for a while. The quality is actually fine, not the highest grade card stock (Gilded Tarot is on much better paper), but not cheap at all. The book is amazing and actually has a color print of each card. That earns a star right there.
The style of the art seems a bit stretched in places. I didn’t realize it would be so collage oriented, and some of the cards are a bit odd looking (five of Swords) with obvious cut-and-paste edges. To be honest I would probably not have bought it if I’d looked at every card.
So why am I giving the deck five stars then? Because despite being a bit put off by the “new age” aesthetic (It’s just not my thing) and occasional photoshop fail, this deck is really fun to work with. Sometimes I find decks can be so pretty that they are useless because every card is basically the same thing. This deck seems like it would be that way, but isn’t. Instead it’s very clear, and since it basically follows the RW iconography the active and visually intense artwork just makes it more like reading a graphic novel without any words, and thus incredibly evocative. The awkwardness is weirdly effective, keeping you looking at the slightly jarring and yet pretty image. This actually is a technique that medieval artists used in creating icons. Even the five or swords that I mentioned earlier works in this way, with the central figure’s small head floating above an ornate suit of armor. I have no idea if this was intentional or not, but it ends up working very well.

I absolutely love this tarot deck set. It comes in a luscious magnetic closure box. You can definitely store your cards in them. You get a nice large book which is in full colour. I love it when they do that. For the major arcana a full page of the card picture and for the minor arcana a small picture for your reference. I was a bit surprised to see the card stock have a matte finish because I was expecting them to be glossy. However, they cards have a very little gloss and the edges of the cards are golden.
Each card is so intricately detailed and filled with symbols and pictures that it is a total feast for the eyes. The card backs are phenomenal when it comes to the design. I just love the card backs absolutely amazing. I am a very happy and satisfied buyer.

Finding the right deck that suits your tastes and sensibilities can be like searching for the right doctor or place to move. For me, this is one of my favorite decks to date. It’s one of the main decks I carry around in a tarot satchel. I love the lush and vibrant colors that exist on each card. They are vibrant, magical and full of life. The makers of this didn’t stray too far from the traditional images, but rather made those images pop. They truly connect with me. My readings are on target more so with this deck than any of my others. The energy is definitely being reciprocated between myself and the cards.
Of course nothing is ever absolutely perfect as much as I’d love it to be. I only have three little criticisms that I hope is changed, but I’ll settle for at least one of them. The first is that it would be nice if they could make this available on the iPhone and not just Google Play Android. Hopefully that’s in the works. Although the cards are on the smaller end, I hope they consider making it a tad larger. That’s the second thing. The images are so gorgeous that it’s a waste to have them on such a small card. I didn’t find the cards terribly small and in fact they shuffle very easily. The card stock is thick with golden edges which lends some magic and bite. Still – I would love for them to do a re-release and consider making them just a little larger. Lastly, and this is more a personal preference, I’m not crazy about the Pages being made into Princesses. I know some don’t care and actually like that, but for me, this deck would be 100% perfect if they were the traditional Pages. It is only four of the cards out of 78, so I just deal with it and pretend it’s a Page when I see it. Can’t please everybody and certainly not me. This is still by far my favorite deck I enjoy using to date regardless of my little criticisms.

Great Tarot deck! Looks absolutely stunning, however mine did not come with gold foiled edges as per description (not the end of the world for me but is disappointing none the less). Thickness is mid, I would of liked thicker cards but again not the ends of the world – will see how they wear and tear.
Overall must have

This deck is gorgeous! I am fairly new to Tarot reading and shopped around a lot looking for a deck that grabbed me and would not let go and this was it! The colors are amazing, nice and dark (which I love) yet not depressing or possessing of any negative energy (as seemed some I looked into) The artwork is breathtaking! The pictures that have been shared in here really do not do this deck any justice at all! Much more beautiful in person. I am so drawn to this deck I never want to put it down! …however, I am saving it for what I can do it some justice as well… As I said I am new and still learning so I also bought a deck that goes with the book I am learning with. I cannot wait until I can use this deck though!!!!
Description;
It came in a heavy cardboard cigar-style box with a magnetic closure. Included are a nice size book (not a booklet or pamphlet, an actual book) and the deck itself. I got the impression that it also came with a deck baggie but it does not, however, the deck fits nicely back into the box and will not get jumbled up if you do so, there is a cut out inside the box with a ribbon for the deck to rest in and then be easily removed.
As some other reviews mentioned; there was also some (very minor) damage from the gold edging on the cards sticking together on my deck as well. In my opinion, my deck was not damaged badly enough to where I will be exchanging it. In my deck, I knew this was likely so I separated my cards one by one very slowly and carefully so really nobody else will be able to notice any damage, just me and only if I look specifically for it. It seems that when the gold is put on the edges of the cards either the process is a little faulty or maybe the handling after the process may be less than ideal because it is the gold edging that is sticking together. If you keep your deck in a cool and dry place (as I am certain most of us do) then there should be no ongoing issues.
(I was in no way compensated for this review. This is my own personal and honest review of the Illuminati Tarot kit)
