Yes, the scent is reminiscent of funky feet, but with sweet undertones, and I actually find it pleasant; heady and calming. For me, the window for falling asleep happens approximately ten minutes after dosing, either one dropperful under the tongue or two dropperfuls in hot tea, and lasts for about ten minutes. If distracted or not already in bed in a darkened room, it probably wont put you to sleep, but it will relax you. Also, I find the essential oil just as effective in an atomizer or rubbed on my wrists. Wonderful herb and a very good price from Now brand. Excellent product.

I’ve taken liquid Valerian extract off and on for years and years now. I know the product intimately and I love it. One of its most distinctive features is it’s smell. Even just taking a good whiff of the bottle will start the process of relaxation before bed. This product does not smell right. It is extremely thin and does not look right either. It’s dosage is listed as 1.6ml = 1.6ml !! That’s not a dosage! What is the mg of valerian in a 1.6 ml dropper? I did not even bother to look online before purchasing it because all of these products are typically standardized at the same dosage no matter the brand. And who would even think that a mg dosage would not be listed? This is kinda sorta extremely key information here people. Do not buy this anemic product. Please.

Outside of having a hard taste, of strong alcohol , this item delivered. Through my life I’ve suffered with sleep issues. I’ve tried quite literally everything there is to try…. Warm tub, sleep routine, calming teas, prescription sleep medications, night time over the counter sleep aids, aromatherapy, exercise. Granted The over the counter sleep aides helped, but I got tired of taking medication simply to fall asleep night after night. Most directions on the meds did not recommend nightly use, so it became a concern for me.
Previous to trying this liquid extract form I had tried pill form of Valerian root but it either didn’t work or I’d have to take it an hour before I planned on going to bed. Hard to predict and plan when you are a mom and have no clue when your kids will settle so you can get to bed. I found this extract to be something I can take directly before bed and in no time I’m fast asleep . It does not make me feel strange and I don’t wake up feeling like I took a medication. It’s pretty refreshing waking up!
The dropper bottle is attractive, professional looking and easy to use. It’s the strong taste straight that’s hard. I’ve tried adding it to water but I almost think it tastes worse that way. I try to just drop the liquid as far back in my mouth as I can then sip something. This seems to be the best way.
After using this for a while , I find I’m on regular enough of a sleep pattern that I don’t need it every night . Overall I’d recommend it. If they had a way to better mask the alcohol taste I’d have given it 5 stars
Quality Counts –
I keep this by my bed for when I have problems falling asleep. I take a half dropper full right into my mouth and it seems to help. Be careful of using too much as Valerian can affect the liver. I like the Now brand and buy a lot of their products. They’re good quality and usually get top ratings from the ConsumerLab testing company.

I have a really hard time falling asleep.
I started out taking 2 dropper fulls if this about a year ago. After 6 months I went up to 4 dropper fulls 2 hours before bed.
It really helps me switch off my ADHD brain.
I take liquid pineapple flavored magnesium with it and 5 mg of liquid melatonin.
I try to use it for 3 days and then skip 3 days so my body doesn’t get too used to it.
Definitely worth it to try!

Valerian Root was one of the first herbal supplements I used. While I don’t have issues with sleep, it settles the nerves great. But with the capsules I was always taking lower doses because I wasn’t using it for sleep. And sometimes one wasn’t enough. I found myself constantly chasing and searching for the right dosage for my evolving needs. Sometimes you want more, sometimes less. Which is hard with capsules that take time to start flowing through the system. Making the switch to an extract was the best choice for my usage. I have complete control of exactly how much I take. Each time I use it, I dial in the feel that much more. Plus you have the added benefit of a more immediate effect when you take it sublingual. In my experiences I’ve found the NOW Supplements recipe to be of good quality. It smells and tastes like quality Valerian Root and arrives with a solid expiration date. Very satisfied and NOW is now my preferred Valerian Root option.

My family and I really love this valerian. It relaxes the body so you can sleep peacefully and wake up feeling normal since it’s not drowsy. The smell is a bit strong, but they all are. I highly recommend it

Hit the menopause years and sleep became very choppy, found a holistic Gyn who put me on bio identical hormones and suggested I try the Valerian root before bed or at times when I was just feeling quite stressed. I tried the ones without alcohol in them and Wow is this every gross! For some reason my one cat is overly interested in the smelly bottle and tries to knock it off the bed side table. That said, the alcohol makes this bearable, I take 3 droppers full every night before bed religiously along with the CALM magnesium drink as a chaser. I also use Ashwaganda and L Theanine, along with about 8 mg of melatonin. Sounds like a lot but I’ve added these supplements slowly along the way to finally get to the perfect place where I don’t need to add or take anything away from my evening line up. I average 7.5 hours of sleep a night where as before these supplements I was getting a choppy 5 to 6 average and not functioning very well during the day.
