I still love this deck. The cards and imagery are so cute and I really do appreciate the overall quality. My issue is with the book. Again, great quality but I don’t care for the authors interpretations of some of the cards. Uses of keywords like ‘failure’, ‘death'(physically), or other keywords that imply that the journey was wasted effort instead of a part of the up and down journey that is tarot. After really going through and learning the general meanings of the cards, I found the book was okay but feel that it wonders off from traditional RWS and goes more into the author’s own individual interpretation which to be just feels wrong sometimes. I gave up on the book mostly after I started using a sharpie to scribble out stuff that felt wrong.
I’ve started a collection of decks and this one was a huge surprise for me. The book is really helpful and the cards are cute and quirky with good representation. The overall quality is a 5+ for the money. You get the deck and a full size book in box. The book is wonderful and can be used as a source for other decks if need be. Can’t say enough about it. I was very pleased with this purchase. It’s a yes for me, I was impressed with this one.

I love the artwork and all the little details the illustrator put into the pictures. Great for shadow work. The book has wonderful descriptions ( I wish all guide books were as in depth as this one). The individual descriptions include a small ‘fictional’ part, what the author was thinking, and what the cards could potentially mean as well as shadow messages. The box is large and has a magnet to help keep it closed. I wish the box had been a little bit smaller and that the edges weren’t gilded. But, still a fun deck. It’s going to be a favorite deck.

Not only did my deck arrive two days early, but it turned out to be even cuter than the cards I could see online advertised it to be! The Chariot – one of my personal cards – features a little onryo astride a chariot pulled by a pair of fuzzy spiders (which look a little like Hayao Myazaki’s famous and adorable Susuwatari). Other cards have a distinct Harry Potter feel to them (The Magician, for instance).
The artwork is completely captivating: as a shadow deck it’s absolutely ideal for contacting the child that still resides within all of us, and it will definitely help you to see that monster that lurked beneath your childhood bed in an entirely new – and far less threatening – light.
I have a lot of past trauma that I need to deal with, and I think that the Shadowland Tarot and I are going to get along very well together.

I received these cards last night after a much anticipated wait as I’ve been following the progression online. I was so pleasantly surprised at the quality of the entire package. The box itself is sturdy enough to use for all sorts of things if you choose not to store your cards in it. It looks like a little box of magick! The book is done in color with nice quality paper & the descriptions of the cards indicate how much thought was put in to each & every image to stimulate the imagination & intuitiveness of the reader. THE CARDS! I LOVE the cards! I was fortunate enough to get the gold edging which is absolutely beautiful. They are printed on high quality stock paper & I love that they are borderless so as to not distract from the amazing artwork. They are easily held in the hand when shuffled, I have nothing but good things to say about this purchase. Thank you to the artist, Monica. I’m so glad to have stumbled onto images of this deck-in-progress many moons ago… it was well worth the wait!

I love this deck. I read a review that likened the images as a blend of Edward Gorey and Wednesday Addams and they do have that lovely “what lives in corner behind the couch” feel to them. They are wild and earthy and dreamy yet spooky but never malevolent or truly disturbing. The creatures are basically friendly, as if they never didn’t populate my world (which is so true). The elements of each suit seem to occur naturally in each card’s scene which made connection to the elemental thread in a reading more visceral and available. The cards are a lovely heavy cardstock, albeit impossible to shuffle, but gorgeous to hold and lay out on the table. The only thing I don’t like about the cards themselves is the gold edging. (UPDATE: the gold edging seems to be scraping off since shuffling all the cards properly.) The colors are watercolor and muted. The yellow backing is brighter than any yellows used on the card fronts, but adding the gold clashes garishly and takes away from the dark, dreamy, shadow quality of the art. Maybe the future edging should just be black. The book is splendid. Good quality, glossy heavy paper. Each card is described over two pages. There are no specific instructions for reversed cards which the author notes, but keywords and then shadows are provided which could be used as such. There’a a section titled “How To Use The Cards” which explains suits, major and minor arcana, numerology, court cards, and then a lovely section on spreads. Great basic introduction to tarot or transition to non-traditional cards. The one thing I really don’t like about the series has nothing to do with the cards but the philosophy behind them which takes up all of the Preface and Introduction of the book. The author places emphasis on Shadowland Tarot as a product of shadow work. Now I love the little beings that live in the shadows, so I take no offense to the use of that word, but I, personally, have no use for Carl Jung and “shadow work” in tarot. Too much emphasis on duality and unity as if we were always broken and just now discovering how to put ourselves back together. I have had terrible things happen in my life and at times I have certainly felt broken down, but I never actually believed I WAS broken. I don’t like a psychology that will tell people they are broken and that if they make friends with the broken bits, they’ll be alright. I prefer a psychology of fluidity that acknowledges ups and downs without making them mutually exclusive polarities, but rather like notes on one scale that were always there even if not played, were always part of one thing that defied unification because it was never divided. My point is that, even if you are not the slightest interested in shadow work, Shadowland Tarot is still lovely, intriguing, and inclusive of the whole of life which is peopled with as much oddity as it is with the mundane.

The artwork on these cards is unique, sweet and positively darling! The cards are a great quality too. Not too thin, not too thick and there’s none of that yucky heavy gloss coating some deck manufacturers use. The size of the cards is PERFECT! The size makes them easy to shuffle and they have a nice satin smooth feel to them. I’m still familiarizing myself with them, but just at quick glance I can see there’s some slight deviations from the traditional RWS images (example: the traditional Fool has been renamed to “Seeker” and is missing his head, but if you read the book it makes plenty of sense) As such, the book with the artist’s interpretations will come in handy when getting acquainted with this deck. It’s whimsical, colorful, has plenty of cute, charming monsters and creatures throughout and has a sweet, innocent and playful vibe to it. I’m going to really enjoy this deck!!!!

I love the artwork and symbolism. The deck is beautiful and the book is very high quality and well written. If it wasn’t for the poor quality card stock it would be the perfect deck. The edges are rough, it doesn’t shuffle smoothly, and after a little over a month the cards are showing a lot of wear and tear. I have decks that I’ve used for years that are in better shape than these are now. It’s unfortunate because I really really love this deck. If these are ever reprinted on higher quality card stock I would absolutely repurchase.

The Shadowland Tarot is a beautiful collection of cards. I connected with them instantly and adore them. The only problem is that they came all stuck together, I’m assuming it was due to the gold edging. I had to sit and peel them apart one by one hoping that no damage was done. If not for that they would have definitely gotten 5 stars.

I freaking LOVE these cards they are like a campy dark tim burtonesk set of cards, the card stock is a bit large for my tiny filangees but i still love them. The book is very informatative color pages the box is fancy. And if you love the deck like me there is a cute bag you can buy to hold them.

Oh. My. God…. the art is stunning! These cards are absolutely beautiful, the book is amazing as well and very detailed. This is my first tarot deck and I am just so happy about it. I read the other comments saying they got cut? Not sure how? They are not sharp, maybe they didn’t cleanse the energy attached?! I cleansed mine right away, released all negative energy and knocked on them so they can feel my energy and get to know me. I will charge them up on the full moons as well. Also I ordered these on a Sunday and they were shipped the same day and I got them on Monday! The next day!!! Like whhhaaattttt? So sick.

I loved the art, the guidebook, the packaging but….the cardstock and gilding, yuck! Thick and challenging to shuffle, and I now have paper cuts on my fingers from the rough gilding. If the publisher ever makes a more usable cardstock I will repurchase this deck in a heartbeat. This one will be returned.

I love this tarot, because the artwork is wonderful and I know I will really connect with it as I use it. However it arrived with the storage box completely damaged and smashed. This was an expensive tarot and it was shipped in an envelope. Not in a box with bubble wrap. It arrived very damaged. So damaged the paper on the storage box is torn where it has been crushed. I wanted to display this on my shelf but it is trashed. I am so disappointed. I really do not know why it was shipped like this. For an expensive item that I waited for to be shipped, this is really not okay.

This deck is, hands down, one of the best decks to come out this year, if not in the past decade. It really is that good. Obviously, art is subjective, and not everyone will be drawn to this deck’s art. However, if you find yourself liking it, I invite you to take a chance on this deck. It’s a phenomenal reader. Personally, I can easily do very deep, powerful readings, and just as easily, use it to read about daily life, politics, the world, anything. The art is clever and has layers of meaning, while also presenting the shadow aspects of each card quite clearly. The book is also wonderful, very informative; it’s actually more of a workbook in some ways because it teaches you and asks some very helpful questions for exploration or journaling. The spreads provided are fun. My favorite is the “aligning your career with your life calling” spread, it was spot on! The overall production value is excellent. The stock is sturdy and matte; I don’t riffle shuffle so don’t have a problem with the thickness. Overall, a big win, and a deck that has a lot to say, a lot to teach, and a lot to illuminate. Highly recommended!
