    Klare Kaufempfehlung!

I purchased this set to replace a Feadog and Clarke that I lost in a recent house fire. Played the D this weekend at a long gig and it held pitch very well and had a nice crisp bright sound. Easily able to reach 4 octaves as needed.
Definitely recommend for an upgrade or beginner. User friendly. Doesn’t have a fingering guide but you can pull those up online easily.

I’m comparing these penny whistles to:
Clarke original, Clarke Celtic, Generation, Feadog pro and Feadog Standard.

I expected a much lower quality when I ordered these. I was very happy and impressed. First, the box they came in is the same quality as an iphone box. with good quality foam inserts for storage.

The plastic the whistles are made of…it feels like good quality plastic, not cheap smooth flexible plastic. I don’t really know how to describe the texture of them, but the result is that though the whistles are plastic, the sound coming forth is almost wood in nature. So, when I am playing a bright brass type melody, I use the metal whistles, but if I want a soft woody sound, I go for these.

Another plus is that it is very easy and forgiving for creating sound. some whistles if you blow softly, you will get the wrong raspy tone, if you overblow and you are in the range between the first and second octave, you get a bit of a chaos sound. These whistles produce a very very constant tone and the finger holes are very easy to cover. Fingers don’t slip around on the plastic. The plastic is…again, don’t know how to describe it, but it has a grippy texture for your fingers.

So this may be a pro in some cases and a con in others, but I really appreciated, when I first started playing…that my irregular unmeasured breath produced a constant tone from these whistles. Going into the second octave does not have that crazed sound in between, you are either in the second octave or your are not in it, it is a very sharp cutoff point.

However if you want to vary the loudness of the tone by blowing softly or giving more air…These do not have a large range available. The whistle doesn’t make sound if you blow too softly, once you blow hard enough to begin the resonance of the vibrating column of air, the whistle makes a constant nice sounding woody tone even if you are not blowing with a constant air pressure. Very very forgiving for a beginner. But if you want to vary the tone, there is a very very narrow range. Which…is good for some songs but not good in others.

Hitting the second octave, immediate, easy, and has the same good quality sound in the second octave.
The 2nd octave is not ear-piercingly screechy, they have the same nice woody sound as the lower octave.

I have ‘tweeked’ some of my other whistles. (putting putty in the headpiece to dampen the screech) but tweeking these absolutely unnecessary, they are great out of the box.

The only thing I don’t like about these is the length of the piece where you put your lips. The headpiece is roughly the same shape that you would find on a recorder. Since these were my first tin whistles, I thought nothing of it, but after having played other types. I’m rather fond of a bit longer head piece. But…This might have something to do with the sound quality, not sure of that bit. The length of the headpiece does not in anyway affect the play, just a personal preference. But thought to mention it.

Overall I highly recommend this. Since the kit came with a D and C whistle, I can play in the keys of F, C, G, and D and the associated minor keys. (If you are new to the tin whistle, it is very easy to play the 7 notes of the key in 2 octaves, but you can also flat the 7th or sharp the 5th very very easily without having to half-cover holes.

We bought these for myself daughter. She plays flute and loves trying new things. She was very pleased with them and plays around with the sounds figuring out how to get it where she needs them. They are well made and the sound is doable. Great purchase for any musician wanting to try something new.

I’ve got plenty of whistles and did not need to buy these. However, the way they looked really appealed to me and I thought I wanted to give these a go. For the price, I was impressed.

Tone: *** Not bad. It’s got a nice smoothness about it which keeps things from getting too shrill or raspy.
Volume: *** Medium. Wouldn’t be a great session whistle or playing with other musicians. It is likely something that would get overpowered in a mix. However, your neighbors will appreciate the medium volume.
Responsiveness: ***** A very responsive set of whistles! Taps, cuts, and slides come off well. You can get some accidentals at first. But, those go quickly.
Air Requirement: *** Takes a little more air than your average generation type whistle. However, it shouldn’t be much of a an issue.
Tuning: ** Poor intonation and tuning. I’ve compared these with my D Burke narrow bore and my Susato C Session whistle. These whistles didn’t measure up. In order to get the whistles playable, I had to set the root note in first octave at about 25 cents flat. After doing this, all the other notes were within 5 to 10 cents of being flat or sharp. I had to really lean into the root note in the first octave.

Bottom Line: If your going to use these to play with other musicians or to record with, you probably will fight the intonation. I was able to get things fairly useable. Most gigging, busking, or session musicians would likely opt for a whistle with better intonation. Don’t let that scare you though. These can be blown in tune. If you are just starting, these are a great cheap whistle to play around with to see if you might want to play. For practicing on your own in your basement or on your couch, these things are perfect!

These Sondery Irish whistles are what they are: Susato Irish whistle knockoffs.
However, for the price, these two Sondery Irish whistles sound MUCH better than I thought they would.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive set of “C” and “D” Irish whistles, you could do a LOT worse than these.
Of course, as with anything inexpensive that is massed produced, some turn out good and some turn out not so good.

Bottom line: As an experienced Irish whistle player, I find this set to be a great value.

These ABS Sondery Irish whistles seem to be the exact same ABS Irish whistles that are sold as “SMARTWOODI” or “WOODI USA” Irish Whistles.

These are fantastic. The only comparison I have is a $5 whistle I got at a toy store and a Sweetone. It has a much fuller tone compared to the other two. Also had a much easier time playing quieter and hitting higher octaves. I was able to hit a third octave on the lower two notes as well.

Edit: just found out that this is a 2 piece so you can actually tune these a little and it’ll make it a lot easier to clean. Legit blown away how how good these are at the price. The C and D are great. You will need better breath control for the lower notes. Especially on the C whistle, you almost have to just breath into it instead of blowing or it’ll go to the 2nd or 3rd octave.

very good! some of the best pennywhistles I’ve played.
Well made, tunable, in tune very responsive, wish they made more keys in this style.
One of the easiest to start on with a very nice tone.
