Bottom Line up Front: A waste of money. Period.

My shipment of normal dog food was running a couple days behind so I popped on to Amazon and saw this really quick with high reviews and being in a hurry I bought it and didn’t look into it. It was just a stop-gap solution, how bad could it be. After getting it I read the box and see that it doesn’t say the source of the meats, just “beef”. Then I see that it only has:
    – 22.5% protein
    – remaining is over 50% carbohydrates

Yep, this is all Oats. After portioning it out and re hydrating it with bone broth it still tastes like, has the consistency of and looks like Oats. I taste what I feed my dog and I can tell you it tastes like oaty cardboard with a dark tinge to it.

This product obviously has a REVIEW FARM behind it. I doubt it will be available for very long.
I went to the local grocer and bought some kibble to hold my dog over.

    Buyer be ware!!!

So the pros, this is easy peasy fresh/canned food alternative. It’s the canned food without the can. It’s the fresh food without the meal prep and cooking! It’s a hybrid and the best of both worlds, all you need to do is just add water! That being said… (oh and 40lbs of dog food in a 10lb box that I can actually carry up 3 flights of stairs… YES please!!) the cons… I don’t think this is good for big dogs or a lot of dogs. This can get real expensive, real fast and to be honest… I have never measured… BUT I don’t think it makes 40lbs of food… what I mean by that is…. 40lbs of dog food (dried kibble) takes me X amount of weeks to go through… this box that supposedly makes 40lbs of dog food… did NOT last me that same amount of time. I was going through this stuff MUCH quicker than I ever was my dry kibble. My dogs LOVED it! That’s good. I DON’T think I was overfeeding them.. WHY? bc none of them gained weight! They stayed the same… So… that leads me to think.. again.. this doesn’t make exactly 40lbs of dog food equivalent. This is good for little dogs or not that many dogs OR for people who have a lot of $$ and no budget for dog food. Would I recommend, yes for those folks I just listed above otherwise, no. Would I repurchase? I have and off and on will but will use this as a supplement NOT for the entire source of their food. But quality is amazing and the dogs love it! It’s fresher than canned food and kibble and it takes the work out of cooking for your dog.

Human grade, so convenient for people wanting the best for their dog, a raw diet that doesn’t have to thaw. Personally, I don’t eat meat very often. I avoid the blood and mess and the garbage can that smell like rotten meat. This product has every bit of the goodness of a raw meat diet just none of the yuk. I weigh out the amount of dehydrated goodness (43.5 chickens in the 10 lb box plus oats, veggies and other good things. Just add enough water to make it the consistency your dog likes. Poops are small and firm. The other great thing is my dog isn’t bugging me for more food. She doing great., full of energy, vitality,. She is almost 7 and people think she’s a puppy. I know it’s because I feed her the best and this product fits the bill

My 13 year-old Poodle loves this and doesn’t need encouragement to eat this. She has always loved kibbles but she could not digest them well. No issues in regugitation after she started on this.

This food is excellent. I don’t serve this outright as a full meal but instead use it as a premix base with my homemade food. While The Honest Kitchen does have a premix option, there are times where this is cheaper than the premix.

When using this as a base, I don’t add much to it considering the ingredient list. What I added was some seasonings, beef kidney, beef liver, more ground beef, beef tripe, salmon oil and a small bag of mixed vegetables. The texture ended up looking a bit like thinned out oatmeal but I’m fine with that.

Like the premix, this has been good to my girl. Her skin and coat has been shiney without shedding. She hasn’t been itchy. She’s highly energetic. Her breath isn’t bad and her bowels are smaller without being overtly offensive.

I’m all for the purchase of this food as a complete meal. Even without the additional meats and grains I still trust The Honest Kitchen. It actually looks like beef. I recently purchased Three Bears from Grandma Lucy’s only to be disappointed. For a food to have beef, you’d think it was a light brown color but no. This food for sure doesn’t lie about their meat content and it smells pretty darn good. It taste good too. I’ve tasted all the meals not kibble I’ve presented my girl to date. If I didn’t know better I may consider eating her food.

Overally, these dehydrated mixes is worth the purchase. My family loves them. I highly recommend all of the ones I’ve purchased from The Honest Kitchen to date.

Fantastic product. I have a boxer/pit mix and a standard poodle. The boxer will eat anything but has allergies. The poodle has never been interested in food. Until now.
The boxer no longer had allergic scratching. The poodle..,. Stands like a statue watching as I mix “cook” the food. We make it fun and set a timer. When the 3 minute alarm goes off they both go nuts and sit immediately waiting for the “go”. They both finish, clean each other’s bowl. It must taste great. It is very easy to use. I make about the thickness of oatmeal. You can smell the freshness and quality of ingredients as you stir in the water.
Great quality and value. I’m extremely pleased.

We have been feeding our dogs Honest Kitchen dehydrated food for quite some time now and it’s great when you have dogs who have to take regular medication and can’t be coaxed into swallowing pills (no matter what you try to hide them in). You can crush pills or pierce capsules and pour the liquid into this food, add water, stir and wait 3 minutes and the dogs eat it up. I find my dogs like the beef and fish flavors the best, and yes, it looks like oatmeal when it is ready. I top it with some kibble so they have the crunch as well as the stew. It’s nice that you know every ingredient that is in your dog’s food and that it is humanely and sustainably sourced. My dogs love it and get barky when the box is opened. Also, you don’t have to deal with all the cans that come with wet food!

The price is very reasonable. The food is outstanding! Charlie hated his kibble, would only eat it as there was nothing else to eat, and then I found Honest Kitchen. When I’m preparing it for him, he jumps up on the cupboards, scratching, cannot wait for it to be ready. Charlie eats it all and licks the bowl. He’s never done that before, that is, not until Honest Kitchen Human Grade Dehydrated Organic Grain Chicken Dog Food. This is my 3rd order, and I’ll never ever feed Charlie anything else.

For the past few months I’ve been extensively researching for a better food for my 3 small dogs, one is a schnauzer and the other two, yorkies since the the regular dry store bought kibble hadn’t been doing my little ones any favors, especially in the weight department. After giving up trying to find something better at the big box stores, I figured I’d have better luck on Amazon.

I came across this product while looking at the Sojos brand of freeze dry dog food and figured I’d try this one first since it’s cheaper and would probably be better for weight loss and maintenance.

One thing I always check is the ingredients and the nutrition panel when comparing different brands and flavors. With this particular food, I noticed that the ingredients on the list were fantastic with all of them free of nasty, harmful GMOs, and many of them being organic which is what I feed the human members of my family. Also worth mentioning, the ingredients are also human grade which is very reassuring so you know it’s higher quality and doesn’t contain questionable chemicals or ingredients like euthanized shelter animals (crude protein in many cheap-o brands of dog food, seriously. Look it up, it’s a real and tragic thing folks).

On to the nutrition; If you have a puppy or active dog, this is probably not the best formula, and this company has many to choose from. I would say it’s best suited for the less active mature/senior dogs like mine. That said, since they have been eating this food, they’ve actually had more energy and want to play much more than they used to!

The fat content in this particular food is very low in comparison to most other dog foods, the protein content is mostly from the beef and comes in at a moderate, but healthy percentage for omnivores (which I’m sure you know that dogs are omnis and not carnivores such as cats). Dogs absolutely need protein, however, too much protein can burden the liver. This formula also includes a nice panel of vitamins and minerals added in addition to the naturally occurring nutrients from the food’s wholesome ingredients.

Out of the bag, it’s a super green powdery texture with small pieces of what appears to be fruit, oats and veggies. I have to say the first time I measured it out and examined it, I was concerned, especially when I added the hot water. However, once reconstituted and cooled, the product has a lovely thick texture and smell, which is easy for my dogs to eat and digest.

For the preparation; Super easy! I just use a large Pyrex jug, fill it will purified water, microwave for a couple minutes then add in the correct amount of measured dry food from the package (which is a plastic resealable bag in a snug cardboard box). I let the food sit to fully absorb the liquid and to cool down, then feed to my anxiously waiting fur babies who are ready to gobble every last drop!!

Tip; I personally like to add in some organic Turmeric into the hot water and create a lovely tea base full of antioxidants before adding in the dry mix to add more health promoting benefits. Using hot water creates a much better texture/reconstitution than if you were to add cold or cool water.

The best part besides the fact my dogs love the taste and don’t waste, feeding time is easy, much more controlled since I am using this to help my dogs achieve a healthier weight, and this seems to last a long time. And, since the box is smaller, it is easier to store than a large bag of dry kibble, or many, many cans of moist dog food.

So far the improvements I have seen in all three dogs has been: more energy, weight control/management, better health as per vet checkup since the last. They overall seem to be happier and, as long as this product stays on Amazons subscribe and save program which makes it more cost effective, I’ll continue to purchase because the quality I get from this is far better that’s what seems to be out there, as for right now.

    Hope this helps!

I’m so impressed with The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Whole Grain Chicken Dog Food! It’s the perfect solution for my dog’s meals, and I love knowing that I’m feeding him something healthy and nutritious. The dehydrated formula is easy to prepare – I simply add water, and it’s ready to serve. I’ve noticed that my dog loves the taste and always finishes his meal without hesitation.

The ingredients are top-notch, and I love that it’s made with whole grains and real chicken, providing my dog with high-quality protein and essential nutrients. It’s great to see a brand that focuses on whole food ingredients without any fillers or artificial additives. Plus, it’s made with natural ingredients, which gives me peace of mind about what my dog is eating.

The 4 lb box lasts me a decent amount of time, and I feel good about giving my dog a nutritious meal every day. I’ve also seen an improvement in his coat and overall energy since switching to this food. If you’re looking for a high-quality, easy-to-prepare, and nutritious food for your dog, I highly recommend The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Whole Grain Chicken Dog Food.

Overall, it’s a great choice for any dog parent who wants the best for their pet!

My dog loves Honest Kitchen much better thank Grandma Lucy’s. I went back and forth between the two products for about a year .. with my old Whippet that passed. My new boy another Whippet, came to us as a young puppy.. he is now a year old and gets an extremely high quality dry food as well as Honest Kitchen, I fed him the remainder of what I had left in the bag of Grandma Lucy’s, he would leave it in his dish unless I mixed a lot of people food with it.. I feel that they (dogs) don’t get enough water with the dry diet. With Honest Kitchen, I add some of what we have for dinner and mix it in, add the required amount of water and serve..he loves it. .I will sometimes pop it in the microwave to heat it up as well. He is one spoiled puppy. As far as price, I bought it here for 20 dollars less than at my pet food store.. It arrived the next day.. I was totally amazed.. great product… “it’s delicious” signed Tommy the Whippet.

My dog has had a severe allergy so we have been trying elimination diets before spending a ton on tests. We love the chicken and beef version of this but she reacted. The fish has been a game changer. And her poo is super solid. Other food changes have caused tummy trouble. Not this one. Highly recommend and worth the money. Much better than burnt kibble.

I have 3 chihuahuas and have tried so many dif foods for them. 2 of them gt bored with the same flavor all the time and 1 thts not picky is 12yrs old so i wanted one tht was good quality, lots of dif flavors, easy to eat (small dogs=small teefs and lots of teefs taken by dentist), and affordable. This brand checks all the boxes. We also use Stella&Chewy and Ziwi(this ones expensive!) The variety has been a game changer. I have had to tweek amounts cuz its easy to feed thm too much. I call it their doggie oatmeal cuz basically it is. We also get the harder crunchy food but i usually smash it up some for them.
*One problem i did encounter is my oldest guy Gary ended up with extreme constipation cuz this food does have a higher carb count. It was not pleasant. An enima was performed cuz xrays just showed he was extremely backed up. Again I have small 7&8lb dogs. Anyways it was a rough few days. After tht I used more water with the mix and added a bit of freeze dried beef or chkn frm Stew&Chew also would alternate between this doggie oatmeal and Stew&Chew digestive food. Now we are good. Lessons were learned. Also another game changer was adding a green lipid mussel supplement mixed in once a day. Not only is everything moving out on time but he has so much more energy than he ever has. This lil 12yr old chihuahua named Gary gets major zoomies. He runs out of gas quick but he used to get pulled muscles or hip pains if he played too much…not anymore. Also another thing tht changed is his sinuses. He would gt sinus infections maybe 2-3 times a yr and now none since the shift.
My other 2 dogs are very young but one guy Carl is part Italian Greyhound so he has long skinny legs and both is knees pop out every day. His elbows pop like crazy too. Hes a rescue n whn we got him 2yrs ago he had no hair on his chest and got rashes on his nose all the time n extremely skinny. Hes still skinny but now he has chest hair its very thin but thts the iggy in him. His knees ache less. And he gets very zoomy too. Our baby Birdie is just 2 but shes a chipom so I know i have to watch her diet cuz heart issues n diabetes run in her dna.
Long review with extra stuff thrown in but I wanted to explain why we love this brand. (Along with others) Trying to find the right food has been difficult. Vets always recommend Hills or Royal Canine n they arent terrible but the nutrition in those blows my mind cuz it has corn n other fillers. Our dogs would gt so bored with those they would rather eat the grass they peed or starve than eat anymore of tht kibble.
So in Conclusion….this brand is amazing! Affordable for our small 3 chihuahuas and I think its gonna help them live long healthy n happy lives!

Got roped in with the good reviews as I was looking for alternatives to wet food. Introduced to my 11yo terrier mix very slowly. This was always planned as a supplement to mix in with his dry food. He wasn’t liking the taste so like many others, I moistened with chicken and beef broth (low sodium). He did eat it but as last bite and didn’t seem to enjoy it. I thought he would eventually adapt but not 2 weeks later he developed diarrhea. I wasn’t sure this food might be the culprit so I removed it from his diet and he resolved the diarrhea within a day or 2. A few days later I started the slow re-introduction again, and by day 3 the diarrhea came back. I stopped feeding this altogether and he has been fine since. Clearly this was caused by the food (this was the ONLY new change in his feeding plan). The broths I had used to moisten he tolerates with no issues whatsoever. I bought both the beef and chicken variety and am now stuck with unusable food that I don’t even feel comfortable donating. Many others have complained about their dogs getting sick as well. I regret trying this and would not recommend it.

Our Pups are in Food Nirvana! They absolutely love Their Honest Kitchen meals! When its time to eat they are as so excited… Its like how I get when I order a Double Double Animal Style at In N Out Burger. We have two young Frenchies and an older Maltese. All 3 been fine dining on Honest Kitchen food for 6 months now. We prepare it with hot water and mix it up like oatmeal (which is great as I will explain in a moment). Our frenchie Jax was the biggest concern before we found the HK food option…. food allergies, rashes, kibble regurgitation, bowel issues….. you name it, it was no fun for Jax. He started on the “Grain Free” version of HK 6 months back. Everything is good! No rashes, no getting sick, normal bowels…. its like he’s a new man. He’s happy, and you know the french aren’t always the happiest people. Cooper, our 1 yr old frenchie loves it. At 9 months he was a bit of load…. 6 months later he looks like Chris Hemsworth with an under bite! Chloe our 13 yr old Maltese could care less about eating her whole life. She only only cared about looking pretty. Well even fashion models get old…The last few years its been harder for her to eat because it hurts her teeth. On the Honest Kitchen she has become a foodie. In fact, when its time to eat, just get out of her way or you’ll lose a finger! She did not do any of the following things for 12 years…but now, oh my god, she’s annoying…. Barking to tell us that it’s time to eat at the exact time each day (She will come and find me in my office and stare at me); Licking her bowl for a good 5 minutes after she’s finished; Checking the other dogs bowls and licking them: going back to her bowl and licking it again. If she had an Amazon Prime acct we would be in serious trouble! The best thing is that the Honest Kitchen smells like Thanksgiving Dinner! I actually get hungry when I make their Honest Kitchen meals, which is a far cry from dry heaving whenever we had to feed them wet food from the can. Honest Kitchen is like Thanksgiving Oatmeal. Maybe that’s what the should name one of their flavors! It may cost a bit more than other options but after all these are your fur babies. Keep them happy and healthy but do yourself a favor and get rid of the metal dog bowls or all the licking will sound like a really bad band is in your laundry room (Thats where Chloe eats)!

Perfect food for my senior dog. He loves the flavor and consistency. I love the ease of preparation and the healthy ingredients. So much better than canned dog food that you have to refrigerate and reheat.
