Not sure if there is a technique to this but not nearly as loud as I had believed it would be and slightly bigger too. Otherwise product is as described.

For all intents and purposes, this thing is loud enough for all domestic purposes. It was such a great gift for an eclectic individual in my life. It is decent quality for a novelty item and looks great. For any ladies that walk alone at night in the city, I would consider adding this to the arsenal alongside the mace – it is small enough to keep in a coat pocket and would certainly scare lurking people away.

This is a great little Aztec style death whistle. It’s made of resin and it’s pretty well-made with only a few bubbles, and it’s quite heavy since it’s made of pure resin. It’s made of black and white resin which is very interestingly patterned all over it, and it looks really cool. It also sounds pretty interesting, if you’ve heard an ‘Aztec death whistle’ then you’ll know how it sounds. It also has a little hole in the top for a string, plus a string with a little resin skull on it, which is nifty.

It definitely doesn’t sound like it’s 135+ decibels – which would be enough to cause immediate permanent hearing loss. I measured it ‘around’ 95 decibels with a reasonably accurate phone app. I didn’t want it to but it is listed as that, so I’m removing a star for deceptive marketing. Additionally it’s got a somewhat rough interior that doesn’t hold up to close inspection.

The inside of the ‘mouth’ of the skull, where the whistle part is, is quite roughly-finished, it looks like it was drilled out with a router afterwards in some spots. I wouldn’t say the inside of it looks professional as a result. But, to be honest that’s a bit nit-picky and it’s only noticeable if you’re looking at it up close, plus it doesn’t effect how well it works.

I don’t see any lines that would indicate where it was pulled out of the mold (what resin is poured into), so they’ve either been smoothed/sanded over or the piece was shaped after curing. I genuinely cannot tell whether it was shaped after it cured (dried) or before, the outside of it is quite smooth but the inside of the mouth is very rough, as I said. It’s not an issue for me, but if you want something that looks ‘premium’ to someone looking at it up-close, this likely won’t work for you.

Overall, if you’re interested in this, it’s a good value at around $30 or so, and it definitely is an interesting ‘conversation piece’.

I only review things that I personally use myself on a regular and continued basis. I always give my full, honest, unbiased and unfiltered opinion on everything I review. I will not hold back or avoid describing any issues I have with a product. I write exactly what I think about things – the good, the bad, the ugly, and the questionable. And, I will update my review if something breaks, stops working as intended, or otherwise doesn’t hold up as expected.

This Aztec-type whistle is unique and interesting. It’s functionality as a whistle is excellent, producing loud, sharp sound. What’s most striking about this item is its design, admittedly on the macabre side, but very interesting for that reason. It makes for a eye-catching piece when worn on the accompanying neck-string, and an excellent gift for anyone with an interest in Aztec history and artifacts.

This ‘Death Whistle’ just sounded like a coaches whistle without the little ball in it. In the very short video, I could only get it to 116db and I blew it as hard as I could.

This whistle does function well and it seems very durable. It looks cool and I guess it could be useful for something, but I haven’t found it yet.
