This sprawling thirty-chapter book includes all major tales of Norse Mythology. From Thor and mischievous Loki to the twilight of the gods known as Ragnarök. Also included is the decryption of Runes, exploring Spells, Ásatrú, European history, warfare, ancient inspirations, to even expansive pages from the ancient book known as Poetic Edda. Each chapter will include stunning paintings to kindle the ancient Viking dreams…

To my fellow fans of the Vikings, this Norse Mythology book is for you!

This vividly told book also goes into detail about the Viking history, from the brutality of Ragnar Lothbrok, explorations and complications of Eric The Red, to the Shield Maiden Lagertha and victories in battle, to Leif Erikson’s fleeting glimpses of the New World. The Ásatrú religion is also explored in detail. From its beginning with the founder Sveinbjörn Beinteinsson right down different festivals in Europe on the religion.

In addition, there is an expensive background on the history of Vikings. From the beginning and to the end, with the Christianization of Europe and so merging into other societies. Finally, included are lengthy excerpts from the bard himself, Snorri Sturluson’s book Poetic Edda for reference into a bygone age. This also includes Hávamá, The Book Of Ancient Norse Poems/Inspirational sayings from the Vikings.

Throughout these thirty-two chapters, you will find:

Goddesses and Gods: From Odin, Idunn to Thor and Loki. This goes into vivid detail about all the main myths.

When The Blood Axe Ruled: Within these pages, there is a detailed biography of many of the more memorable Vikings etched in Scandinavian history.

Weapons, Food, and Ships: From battle axes to blood eagles to clinker technique on their dragon ships.

Decrypt Runes: This breaks down the beginning of the runic alphabet of Elder Futhark to Young Futhark.

Explore Spells: In-depth info about the basics of old Norse Magic Seiðr. Though, how is forever lost to the ages.

Hávamá: A collection of ancient Norse Poems and inspirational sayings from the Vikings Bards.

Asatru/Paganism: From the very beginning in the 1970s, including the various holidays and what exactly is a blot.

Poetic Edda: This includes select highlights from the Snorri Sturluson ancient writing. Over 100 pages from the ancient book.

This epic multi-century book is, bar none, the most detailed and epic Norse Mythology Bible on Amazon!

I want to reach out to the author. This book needs a proof read. The layout and information is fantastic, but the English needs proof reading. Please proof read this, and re-release another edition because this book is well worth the effort.

I’ll start with my personal biggest disappointment, the back of the book did lead me to believe there would be artwork inside the book. This is not the case and there is very minimal art work inside.

The book itself is great for reference material. It is very organized and detailed with everything I needed.

It’s a pretty book, nicely bound, but the content..?

[See photo for randomly sampled page]

The content reads as gibberish. Poor sentence structure and confused choice of words. If the author, Rørik Sørensen, is, as I suspect, not a speaker of English as his first language, then this is, to a certain extent, forgivable. Nevertheless, it should have been translated into English by a professional translater, then checked by a professional proofreader, rather than some sort of flawed AI program.

I’m afraid this is the second recent book purchase from Amazon which has clearly been produced without the assistance of a professional publishing house. The other one had headers and footers in the middle of pages, and huge gaps in the text where the page breaks should have been, obvious errors to anyone bothering to check the print run, not to mention the harder to find spelling mistakes and wrong word choices, made by another flawed AI program.

As one who once worked in the editorial department of a publishing house, I know how much work used to go into making sure a title was fit for publication. This lack of care we are seeing now with POD self-publishing is depressing.

Amazon should make it plain, or more plain, which of their titles have been knocked-up by someone at home. I’m afraid I’m no longer prepared to buy books from Amazon, only to be disappointed. I will be using a book shop in the future.

To be honest im tempted to go through with a pen and fix the typos. Theres a ton of them. I think its a combination of the author being inexperienced, english not being his first language, and not having an editor.
I probably wouldn’t recommend it to people I know personally.

BUT if you’re completely unfamiliar/partially unfamiliar with the norse tales and want somewhere to start, this is an okay place to do that. It gives some level of understanding to the stories and pretty much gets the point across so if youd like to read something more complicated later (such as Tales Of Norse Mythology from Barnes And Noble) you’ll have a general idea already of whats going on.

Note: I am a tad concerned about AI editing though.

Overall I’ll read it and probably go back occasionally to check a story or something, but i wouldn’t source it for anything.

Sorry, i really wanted to like it more.

A treasure trove for anyone fascinated by Viking lore, ancient battles, and the rich tapestry of Scandinavian history. This book covers everything from gods and giants to Viking ships and runes, making it a comprehensive guide to Norse mythology. What sets it apart is the engaging narrative and stunning visuals—photos, drawings, and ancient writings that bring the myths to life. The detailed and researched content, along with the gripping storytelling, makes it more than just a history lesson. It’s a journey through time and legend, perfect for fans of “Game of Thrones” and Tolkien.

My adult son loves this book. It makes a great gift for anyone interested in Nordic culture.

This book is not written as a fun read about Norse Mythology, it’s more like the complete resource book for everything you never knew about Ancient Norse history/culture/mythology. This is a book you will go back to later for details on different Norse mythical lands, or lines of ancient poetry. Keep this book as a reference in your libary.

I cannot begin to express my disappointment with this book. I was SO looking forward to receiving it. However, it is so poorly written/proofed, that I cannot even make it through reading. It is written as though AI had done the work and is painful to try to work through and make sense of.
What a waste of money and time.

Just as Tracy stated in another comment, only English has to be improved here. The content of the book is good and encapsulates properly the notions one needs to begin learning about Norse Mythology and its context till nowadays.

Whom ever proof read this book before publication needs to give the money back . I am no literature scholar but even I can say some parts are so poor it can be difficult to read .

I am forgiving of this however and it is a lovely looking book and for the most part covers the main stories of Norse paganism.

This is not a review of the content, but the book itself.
It’s very low quality, and came warped, and can hardly be called Hardback.
Cardboard with a slick cover maybe that could scrape off easily.
As many who buy hardback books I want something that will last, this is not close to anything of quality for the price paid for it. What I have read scanning through the book is very interesting, but the book is shamefully pathetic.
