Update 2 months:
This is absolutely necessary to keep the peace in my household. I have started to give her slightly more than 75mg, because it wasn’t working as well after a while but giving her 1 pill plus a little sprinkle from the second pill works great. She is just over the weight suggested for the 75mg.
I tried to give it every other day but it just was not working as well as every day. We still smoosh it into a few pill pockets and make like a dough and then I pinch off treat size pieces and she loves it! She cries for it every morning and that is what she wants for breakfast lol. She’s now refusing wet food because this is what she wants.
Update 7 days after initial review:
I have been giving 1/2 of a 75mg capsule twice a day to my cat for 7 days straight now and she has not attacked my other cat in 7 days! We usually have stalking and attacking constantly so to go from constantly to none is very impressive! What I really like is that she still has her personality and does not seem drugged in any way. She just isn’t a psychopath stalker anymore 🤷🏻♀️. I plan on continuing the regimen and giving 1/2 to her twice a day. I started by sprinkling half a capsule on her wet food but she doesn’t eat all of it (she doesn’t mind the powder at all) so instead I have been buying pill pockets and I just knead it into the pill pocket like a dough and she eats it right up. This way she gets the full dose and I’m not wasting any.
Initial review:
My vet recommended that I try this before we put my cat on Prozac.
I have two cats. My cats are not litter mates, they are both 6 years old and I adopted them one year apart. Pandora was the second cat I adopted and she has turned out to be a little psychopath. She constantly bullies and stalks and chases and attacks my other cat. It drives me insane and at times it’s extremely draining. I have tried very good quality lab tested CBD, and every kind of feliway spray and diffuser there is. Nothing works.
I purchased this about 8 months ago and the first time I gave it to her she full on attacked my foot (not playing, it was very aggressive) and she has never done that before. So I have not given it to her again.
Out of desperation, I am revisiting this option, after reading more about how to administer, I think she probably just needs more time to adjust.
I sprinkled half of one capsule on top of about a tablespoon of wet food. She ate almost all of it right away.
I purchased some pill pockets and I think I can smush the powder into them and feed it to her that way to ensure she gets as much of the product as possible without wasting any.
She goes crazy for pill pockets! I’ll gladly update this review once we finish the bottle.
Tonight was the first night we started it again and she walked around the house looking for something to get into for about 30 minutes (typical) and then laid down and went to sleep.

I adopted my 22 lb terrier mix last June. Lily part of a litter born in Puerto Rico to a stray mama. When we got her she was as wild as they come… age did not k ow any commands and was extremely fearful of humans. She was a resource guarder, barked incessantly, and very protective of get food. With training she has come a long way but the barking and food hoarding, and distrust of anyone other than me still has a ways to go. Lily has taken Zylkene for about a week now and it has made a notable difference. She’s still Lily but the Zylkene has taken the edge off big time. Now we have time for her to hear us and heed our commands before reacting. She is less “crazy” around the cats, stops when we ask her to, way less barking, and mare welcoming to new people. She is 22 lbs and 150 mg mixed with her breakfast seems to be the perfect dosage. The price is a bit high but subscribe and save helps.

It works but I wanted something where my cat could just enjoy chilling out with family, I know cats sleep a lot anyway but this really knocks him out where I don’t get enough time with him. I hope that eventually he will relax in his new home and I can enjoy quality time with him.

My cairn terrier has always had a noise phobia but since turning 13 he was having more issues and newly jumpy on walks if I stepped on something. Our vet suggested these as a support medicine to slow or help doggy dementia too. I’ve had my dog on one pill a day for 5 months and it’s made such a huge improvement in his life. I wish I found these sooner in his life. Definitely worth the cost for the improvement I see in my dogs life as he gets older.

I have a small terrier with allergies and anxiety. For her to be happy, I have to manage both. This product does a good job of relaxing her, though it is not the only thing I use. I do notice when I stop using it she is antsier, so I have chosen to continue the product. But the price continues to increase from expensive to untenable. I looked around for alternatives.
The active ingredient is called Alpha-Casozepine, according to the label. So, in looking for products with this, it turns out that Lactium is a trademarked version of this. It was difficult to find a product with this alone. Ultimately, I found a Swanson Antistress human product that contained only this as an active ingredient. There are other products that have this ingredient along with other things that I didn’t want. I’ll see how this new product works once I receive it.
Interestingly, Calmkeen, a product that markets itself as similar, has hydrolyzed milk protein as the active ingredient, but it does does not have the actual Alpha-Casozepine. I bought it to alternate with Zylkene, but it simply does not work as well for my dog. And the price, which is significantly cheaper than Zylkene, has continued to rise likely because Zylkene’s has. Anyway, if money is no option, then Zylkene is an effective product. If you don’t want to continue to pay chronic price increases, you may need to look for an alternative.

We have four cats and three feliway diffusers, but we also have a frisky boy cat who lately decided he likes to harass our older girl. The girl cat started picking out patches of fur and hiding at the top of the cat tree. Two days of treatment for them and the fur chewing stopped, the aggression has stopped, and they are both really getting back to normal. It’s nice not to hear hissing! We plan to use the whole bottle and hopefully break the habits.
We use churo treats and mix two capsules into one churo for each cat. Works great!

This is a NON-Drowsy supplement that truly does work! This calms my cat without making him sleepy so that I’m able to take him to the vet or give him needed medication. In addition, he is a hyper personality and sometimes is aggressive to our other cat & this supplement makes him less so. I like it that it doesn’t change his personality or activity level but it does help him accept medication and vet visits.
Madison Anders –
I saw this product being recommended in forums dedicated to helping cat owners with their cat’s health issues. My cat has recently been super stressed, especially after just having an intense allergic reaction to fleas that we have been to the vet for that caused him to start over-grooming, now he does it to self-soothe for his stress. I don’t have the money after the first vet visit to see a behavioral specialist, so I’m doing whatever I can to distract him from excessive licking.
I saw this supplement recommended for stress and anxiety and I decided to see if it’ll help after 8 weeks of use. The capsules come in the bottle as shown, they’re very easy to open and administer in wet food, I’ve even had him directly lick it off my hand.
My cat has had a definite improvement in his mood, but still over-grooms if left unsupervised, not sure if this is from the medicine itself or from a combination of all I am doing for him. He does now get his full 12 hours of sleep like a normal adult cat should, instead of spending it self-soothing.
Shadi –
These did not make a significant difference for my cats, but I’m not going to give this product a bad review because I understand there are biological nuances between animals that make supplements more or less effective. What works for one cat may not work for another. It was still worth trying. I gave them a full 7 day course of the pills and it did not seem to help their anxiety or induce calmness.
That being said, it mixes well with food and my cats, who are normally very picky about eating anything with supplements mixed in, ate it without hesitation. I took the capsule apart and mixed in the powder. There were no negative side effects either.

I started giving this to my 5 year old neutered male cat after he started to have “tantrums” over simple things like shooing him off bed and hissing at my feet when wearing certain shoes. In general, anything that seemed to not be his idea or made him nervous. I also had been using Feliway diffusers also in the home. I saw some improvement at one 75mg a day on dry food but still having some “tantrums”. I started giving 75mg twice a day with his dry food and the “tantrums” are rare since he has taken it twice a day for about 2 weeks now. We still use Feliway diffusers in conjunction with Zylkene. Before going to twice a day, I was considering starting him on fluoxetine as I have used it on patients of mine in veterinary practice but this is much easier as he readily eats it sprinkled on his dry food. This along with Feliway may be a good first try for treating anxiety and problem behavior in cats before going to fluoxetine and the problems of getting the cat to take fluoxetine.

I’ve been pretty happy with Zylkene! I ordered it for two of my anxious senior dogs. It did not work for one of them, but his issues seem to run deeper and he’s required something a bit stronger from the vet. For my chihuahua, though, she would tumble every time we ran the dryer before we started her on Zylkene. Since it’s a capsule, I just open it and sprinkle it on her food each morning, and it takes the edge off enough that she no longer has issues when we run the dryer.

These are GREAT for my psycho cat! One pill in her evening meal and she doesn’t go nuts when I try to sleep! In fact, she curls up next to me and I get a great night sleep as well. Highly recommend.

My experience comes from a cat shelter and, in recent years, working as a professional cat behavior consultant.
It’s hard to know with supplements if they really are effective, especially when they are used in conjunction with other behavior modification strategies. I can say that I used them with my cats for about a month as we were transitioning into our new home, and I thought they were helpful. I like that they have fewer potential side effects than prescription medication.
Most cats don’t mind the taste. For cats with more discerning taste, you can give the gel caps whole, on a lick mat in a pile of mixed-texture treats. The only drawback, from my perspective, is these supplements are pricey, which makes them less feasible for long-term use.

I have a 4-year-old Maine Coon with a sensory processing disorder. My big boy, Barnum, has trouble processing textures and noises. I have the only Maine Coon in America who HATES to be brushed no matter the brush or comb used. (We have 12.) Everyday noises — the doorbell, microwave alarm, TV volume — completely unhinge him and send him running for his life. Prozac helped to some degree, but it also flattened him emotionally and didn’t fully address the sensory overload.
Since adding Zylkene alongside an reduced Prozac dose, the change has been remarkable. Barnum is calmer (no longer flinching when the duct work in the attic pops or the ice maker drops ice), more social, and genuinely enjoying life again. He seeks affection, engages in play, and even participates in brush sessions willingly (with freeze dried chicken incentives!). The difference is subtle but profound — his nervous system feels soothed, not sedated. I give him 1 capsule every morning. 2 made him sleep all day.
Zylkene has balanced his sensory overload and allowed his personality and spirit to come back. He’s alert but regulated, playful but not anxious, and much more comfortable navigating the household and daily life. Any owner of a cat with anxiety or sensory issue should try Zylkene. Worth every penny!

Heard of this supplement from a breeder at a cat show. She suggested it for my 8 month old overly rambunctious Tonkinese kitten. After a month he has settled down considerably and has learned some boundaries.
This seems to have no taste or smell. I mix it with a treat or his wet food and he doesn’t seem to notice it.
I will continue to use it while maturity on his part with his teenage angst and emotions even out.
