Imagine my distress when I found that my own life set of hand hewn, fruitwood runes, inscribed with my own blood, was missing several pieces! I made that set in 1981, and it has my entire LIFE in it! Each piece was intensely personal. I grieved, thinking I would NEVER find a replacement that would approach the value and love of that set. So I was skeptical when I saw this one advertised in Amazon. I just got the set and they are BEAUTIFUL! each tein has a FEEL to it, that explains, tactilely, its origins! Having been Asatruar for many MANY years (I was in Diana Paxson’s Hearth, Greyhaven), I am NOT a novice. This set, while still strange to my spirit, shows already that it will fold into my wyrd, my fortune, easily. The teins are smooth, very individual, but with enough similarity that you still select randomly, by touch. They are well made with deeply incised runes.
The leather circle is VERY stiff, and will need to be softened until it is usable. Do NOT use it, while stiff, to hold your runes! Keep them in the woven bag instead! They will fall out unless the leather is softened and fully closeable. My set will go into my own personal rune bag. The leather will become a casting field. And, to my everlasting delight, these WILL replace my old personal set (which I will retain nonetheless!)

Lovely runes. They have a surprising heft and density for being bone. The feel more stone, than wood, for example.
The leather may is a bit dry/stiff and “remembers” the folds as it came shipped. However after rubbing in some leather conditioner, it is starting to become softer with less memory. Also, it appears there is an error with the “dagaz” marking on the mat, as it lacks the side lines and resembles a the X-shape of “gebo” instead. I cannot seem to find any variations of dagaz like this, but perhaps I am wrong.
Update: for anyone bothered by the Dagaz on the mat, it was a quick and simple fix with a hot-tip chisel on a soldering/heat tool, and the fix is indistinguishable from the other rune lines. I bet the same could be done with a paper clip and a lighter in a pinch.

An absolutely stunning rune set! Each rune is a work of art. These are NOT flimsy, thin plastic but sturdy, thick (but not too thick) ox bone. The high gloss finish gives them the look and feel of glass but with the warmth of bone. Very comfortable to use and each rune is carved into the stone so they won’t wear down easily. The leather mat doubles as both a casting surface and a carrying pouch. I’ve had different rune sets over the years but this is by far the best quality and most aesthetically beautiful. Anyone looking for quality runes will be more than pleased with this set.

A fantastic rune set. The bone runes themselves look quite exquisite. They have a nice weight to them, and give a really realistic old time feel. The bag that they come in is leather and opens up into a mat that can be used to cast your divination upon. I don’t really use this that often, but it’s helpful if you’re casting outside or someplace not so clean. I highly recommend this for anyone who’s looking for a solid and durable rune set while maintaining a look of antiquity.

I hesitated on buying this set, but eventually went ahead. I’m glad I did. They are very nice. Rustic appearing and the symbols are deeply carved. The shapes are unusual, but lend themselves to a handmade look. The casting “cloth” is thick and should last forever. It is not suitable as a carrying pouch, however. But a woven cloth bag is supplied for the runes and a larger one for the whole kit. I used a leather pouch I made as it suits me better, and roll up the casting cloth to just carry along. All in all, I highly recommend this set.
